IMPROVEM ENT IN FIRE-PLACE STOVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 40,503, dated November 3, 1863.
T o all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOSEPH SOHMEDING- HOFF, of Cincinnati, Hamilton'county, Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fire-Places; and I do hereby declare the i'oilowing to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part ot' this specification.
This invention is intended to secure a coinplete utilization of the fire-heat, together with efficient ventilation and combustion of the smoke, the same means also tending to preserve the parts immediately in contact with the re from too rapid destruction.
Figure 1 is a perspective section ot'a replace embodying my invention. Fig. 2 shows a portion of the same detached.
A is a chimney-back, and B its breast. O is `the grate. D are passages for cold air, which,
entering behind and at each side ofthe iireplace C, cool the inclosing-plates thereof and discharge into the ire numerous jets of heated air through orices E, and thus assist combustion. The passages D, I style the draftpassages.
Outside of and in the rear of the passages D is my Ventilating-chamber F, which, admit- 4ing fresh air below, discharges it in a heated K, chimney J, and dampers H L, the Whole being combined andoperating as described.
