MERCHANDISE WRAPPER OR ENVELOPE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 402,335, dated April 30, 1889.

Application filed August 16, 1888. Serial No. 282,915. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LoUIs PAUL LncLnRco, a citizen of `the French Republic, residing at Lille, in the French Republic, have in- Vented certain new and useful Improvements in Merchandise Wrappers or Envelopes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specication.

Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of the upper or address tablet of the wrapper or envelope. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the' bottom tablet thereof with the wrappingsheets attached thereto. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a package madeup with one of my improved wrappers, and Fig. 4 is a like view of a modification in the construction of the wrapper.

The invention relates to improvements in wrappers or. envelopes especially designed for use in sending merchandise through the mail, such as samples of dry goods or other merchandise; and it has for its object to provide a cheap wrapper or envelope simple in construction, readily secured around the articles to be mailed, and as readily unfastened.

The invention consists in structural features and in combinations of parts, substantially as hereinafter described, and as set forth in the claims.

The wrapper or envelope consists of a bottom tablet, A, which, according to the uses made of the device, may be made of sheet metal, wood, card or paste board. To this tablet are pasted or yotherwise secured at right angles to each other two sheets or strips, B and C, the sheet B being of the same width as the tablet A, and of such a length as to form two flaps, b b', that when folded over the goods will overlap each other, or nearly so. The strip or sheet C is in width equal to the length of the tablet A, and of such a length as to form ilaps c c', thatwhen folded over the goods inclosed will overlap each other.

The wrapping strips or sheets may bc of any suitable material, such as paper, cloth,

For instance, one end of the band may be inserted through the hole 1, then carried across the tablet to and through'hole 2 to form the end loop, e', thence lengthwise under the tablet to and through hole 3, again across the tablet to form the end loop, e2, to and through hole 4, again partly across the under side of the tablet to and through hole 5, thence lengthwise along the upper face of said tablet to form the longitudinal loop e, to and through the hole 6, the ends being tied or otherwise connected or attached together or to the under side of the tablet, as shown at 7. Any other arrangement of elastic tie may, however, be used so long as a longitudinal and one or more cross ties are provided for the wrapper.

It will not be necessary to describe the mode of using my improved wrapper or envelope, as this is clearly indicated in the drawings and will be readily understood.

For some classes of goods the lower tablet may be dispensed with, the wrappingsheets B C being secured to the upper tablet; or instead of two sheets, B C, but one may be used when it is desired to leave the outer ends or sides of the package open; or said sheets may be secured to either the top or bottomv tablet, as shown in Fig. 4, so as to form but two Wrapping-naps, b c.

Having described my invention, what I claim is- 1.
