Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
T. MORRIS PEROT, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVED WAGON FOR. TRANSPORTING MEDICINE.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 39,95 l, dated September l5, 1863.
To all whom/it may concern.-
Be it known that I, T. M. PERO'L, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented an Improved Medical Wagon; and I dohereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
My invention consists ot` a peculiar arrangement, described hereinafter, ofcases containing medical and surgical appliances within the body of a wagon, whereby space is economized, and ready access had to the various supplies.
In order to enable others to make my invention, I will now proceed to describe the manner of constructing the same.
On reference to the accompan yin gdra wings, which form a part of this specification, Figure lis a side view ot'my improved medical wagon, one side of the same being removed Fig. 2, a plan view, and Fig. 3 a transverse vertical section on the line 1 2, Fig. 2.
vSimilar letters referto similar parts throughout the several views.
The body ot' the wagon, of which A and A are the opposite sides, B the base, and C and C the opposite ends, is of the same, or about the same dimensions as an ordinary armywagon. vThe opposite ends O and C' are so hinged to the body that they can de depressed and made to assume a horizontal position, in which they can be maintained by hooks, staples, chains, or other suitable appliances.
In the bod y otA the wagon are arranged the tive cases orzchests D, E, F, G,and H,thecases D and E being arrangedside by side, near one end ot` the wagon, the cases F and H side by side near the opposite end of the wagon, and the case G restingon and being secured to the case F. A space, I,intervenes between the cases E nd F, this space being at or near the middle of the wagon, and being of sutcient dimensions to enable the attending surgeon to gain access to drawers which open from the cases E and F into this space, access being had to the latter through a door-way, J, formed in one side ot the wagon. Each of the cases D and H has a lid at the top, the interior ofthe cases being arranged in suitable compartments for containing medical stores and surgical appliances.
The cases E and F are furnished with drawers opening, as before remarked, into the space I, the drawers, which have suitable locks or other fastenings, being arranged in any manner which may be found most convenient for containing the many articles required in furnishing a medical wagon.
The case G is arranged for the reception ot' bottles and other medical stores, and has in front a lid, a, whicl1, when depressed, forms an appropriate dispensing-table.
By the above-described arrangement ot' cases, and by leaving an open space, I, at or near the middle of the wagon, the attending surgeon is enabled to gain ready access to all the cases, and especially' to the drawers of the cases E, F, and Gr.
It is of importance that in medical wagons the medicines should be maintained separate from each other, that they should be easy ot' access, and should be conta-ined in as small a compass as possible. It will be evident without further description that these ends are attained by my improvement.
I claim as my invention land desire to secure by Letters Patent- The arrangement within the body of the wagon, substantially as described, ofthe cases l), l), F, G, and H, the intervening space, I, and doorway J, for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof' I have signed my name to this specitea'ion in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
T. MORRIS PEROT.
fitnesses HENRY HowsoN, JOHN WHITE.
