BOTTLE TILTING DEVICE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 395,504, dated January 1, 1889.

Be it known that I, JAMES HENRY NASON, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Tilting Devices; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact descrilirtion thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of terencemarkcd thereon,which t'ormspartot. this specification.

My invention relates to bottle-tilting devices; and its objects are fully stated in the subjoined description and claim. I attain these aims by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in whichl igure i represents a side elevatimi ot' the bottle-filter embodying the principles of my invention, having the bottle in, place. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same with the bottle re moved. Fig. 3 is a partial detail view of the bent rod on which the neck-yoke reciprocates. liig. at. is a detail viewof the operating-wheel. Fig. 5 is a detail view of the yoke, which slides on the bent rod shown in Fi 3, showing the counterpart clainping-arms projectin therefrom to encircle the neck of the bottle. lFig. 6 is a detail view of the rigid bearing by which the device is pivotally mounted on the stand; and Fig. 7 is a view similar to Fig. 1, showing the bottle tilted.

In hant'lling carbonated and effervescent beverages, as well as numerous chemical solutions, it becomes very important that the cont{lining-vessel shall assume and nmintain such a position relatively to the horizon that neither the evolution ot' gases nor the deposition of solid substances shall injuriously at'tcct either the integrity of the vessel or the purity oi the fluid periodically drawn out. Moreover, in man ll flilitilllg chemical. solutions it frequently becomes vitally essential that the vessels be not touched with the hand at all, and it often becomes a momentous question how a (piantity of sulphuric acid, hydrotl uoric acid, and amilogons strong agents shall be poured Irom a bottle or carboy containing the same. The means employed to this end at present are at best clumsy and unsuitable to the manipulation of various forms or sizes of vessels, and do not effect the purposes of my invention. To supply this defect is the aim oi my invention, the use of which results in a clarification of the solution, and the retention, upon pouring, of the segregated sediment, as commonly illustrated in the process of decanting ales, wines, &c.

Upon a suitable stand or base, A, having the upright column B, perforated at B to term a bearing for the threaded axle J, upon which the operating-W11eel is screwed, projecting from the rigid yoke I, to which the annular collar I is attached, is mounted the bent rod I), having at its base the concave bed H, resting on the bent arms D, whereon the bottle K. rests, and near its top the sliding yoke 13, on the inner side of which is rigidly held the clamp G, having (bunterpart .sely-bent arms that pass through the bearing-lugs f, and on the outer side whereof is the sct-screw E, by which the position of the yoke on the parallel rods is adjusted.

C is the washer against which the wheel abuts.

D are the holes in the sliding yoke F through which thebcnt rod ID passes on oscillation.

E E are abutting washers permitting the easy rotation of the set-screw E.

Having thus fully described my improvements, what I claim is The apparatus herein described for tilting bottles mechanically, consisting of a suitable stand haying an upright bearing'column, a rod parallel to the column and bent at the lower end to form horizontal arms whereon the concave bed for holding the bottle rests, and having centrally arigid yoke,wherefroni a pivotal operating-axis projects, to which a terminal hand-whecl is secured, and provided near the top with a sliding yoke having clamparms to encircle the neck of the bottle on one side, and a sot-screw on the other side to adjust its position on the bent rod, in the manner and for the purpose herein t'ully shown and described.
