UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.D
MARCUS M. WILCOX, OF NEW BEDFORD, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-FOURTH TO JESSE GIFFORD, OF SAME PLACE.
NECK-BAND FOR BOTTLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 392,390, dated November 6,1888.
Application filed February l5, 1888. Serial No. 264,153.
To aZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARCUS M. WiLcoX, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Bedford, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Neck-Bands for Bottles, of which the following is a specitlcation.
My invention consists of a strip of metal adapted to be clamped around the neck of a bottle and having integral projections from its lower edge, under which the wire used to wire down the cork may be passed and thereby securely held; and the object of my invention is to facilitate and cheapen the operation of wiring bottles.
[n the drawings, Figure l is a view of the metallic strip before being clasped around the neck of a bottle. Fig. 2 is an end view of the same. Fig. 3 is a view of the neck of a bottle with my invention applied.
In Fig. l, a represents the metallic strip, cut, as shown in the drawings, to provideprojections b in its lower edge, and having the tongue d and slot c as means whereby it is clasped around the neck of a bottle, as shown in Fig. 3.
In Fig. 2, a represents the metallic strip,
(No model.)
and b one of the projections in its lower edge, which is bent outward and downward, as shown, in order that the wire may be passed underneath it.
In Fig. 3, e represents the neck of a bottle having the metallic strip a clasped around it and the cork h held down by the wires g passing under the projections b. The metallic strip a is designed to always remain clasped around the neck of the bottle.
I am aware that it is not new to provide a metallic band adapted to clasp the neck of a bottle and provided with projections outstanding from its upper edge, under which a wire to hold the cork is passed, and such I do not claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
The herein-described metal band adapted to be clasped around the neck of a bottle, said band havingintegral projections from its lower edge, substantially as described and shown.
MARCUS M. WILCOX.
