THOMAS HENRY NOXON, OF INGERSOLL, ONTARIO, CANADA.
CULTIVATORATooTi-i.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 392,060, dated October 30, 1888.
Application filed March 3, 1888. Serial No. 266,052. (No model.)
- To @ZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, THOMAS HENRY NoXoN, manufacturer, ofthe town of Ingersoll, in the county of Oxford, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Cu1tivator-Teet-h, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the invention is to design a eultivator-tooth which will enter the ground and perform its Work satisfactorily Without having the excessive crook in its point; and it consists, essentially, in forming a shoe below the center of the diamond point, so as to constitute a support to the point and regulate its entrance into the ground.
The figure is a side view of my improved cultivatontooth.
In cultivator-teeth, as now made, the shank which extends behind the diamond point is tapered, so as not to interfere with the point entering the ground, and the point of the diamond is crooked, so that it will not enter the ground more than the distance required.
In the operation of a eultivator-tooth of this kind, and which I manufacture, I find that the crook in the point of the tooth prevents the tooth clearing obstructions; and it is to avoid this objection that I have, in ameasure, iattened the crook out of the point of the tooth, and in order to prevent the point thus straightened entering the ground too far I form a shoe, A, below the center of the diamond point B, the said shoe being formed by the eX- tension of the shank at its full depth toa point a little beyond the center of the diamond, and thence beveled off to the point.
What I claim as my invention is The combination, with a diamond'sh'aped eultivator-tooth curved slightly, as shown, of a standard curved near its lower portion to conform to the curve of the tooth and secured to the rear face of the tooth with its bottom edge substantially horizontal and extended nearly to the point of the tooth, substantially as shown and described, and for the purpose 45 specified.
Toronto, February 22, 1888.
THOMAS HENRY NOXON.
