Description

UNTTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HERBERT A. WILLIAMS, OF SOUTH ROYALTON, VERMONT.
SUSPENDERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 391,218, dated October 16, 1888.
Application llcd August Q, 1888.
T0 all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, HERBERT A. ILLIAMs, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at South Royalton, in the county ofvVindsor and State ofVermont, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspenders; and I do declare the following` to be a full, clear, and eX- act description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and tigures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The special object of my invention is to improve Suspenders by combining therewith a water-proof shield interposed between the fabric or clothing ofthe wearer and the buckle, so as to prevent the perspiration from rusting the metal o'f the buckle, thereby soiling the clothes and rotting the suspender and fabric over which it is worn.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a plan View showing the shield applied to a suspender, and Fig. 2 a detail View of the shield.
In the drawings, A represents the suspenderend; B, the buckle, having the hook I); and C, the brace-strap, having the ring c to couple with the hook b.
D is the shield, made of {Iexible waterproof Serial No. 281,828. (No model.)
material, with an upper large cross-slot, d, and two lower oblique slots, el d. It is attached to the suspender in the following manner: I unhook the buckle-hook b from the strap-ring c, hold the shield in front ofthe suspender with the large slot d uppermost, pass the suspenderend A and buckle B through said large slot d, then pass the bracestraps C through the oblique slots d d, and finally hook the buckle B to the brace-strap ring c.
The practical advantage ot' my shield is to make the suspender last much longer and in an unsoiled condition, while the shirts of wearer are no longer disigured with unsightly marks.
Having thus described all that is necessary to a full understanding of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to potect by Letters Patent, is-
The waterproof shield D, having the upper cross-slot, d, and the lower oblique slots, d d',
in combination with the suspender-end A and u the buckle B, as and for the purpose specified. In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HERBERT A. VI LLIAMS.
