CAPSULE FOR BOTTLES.
SPECIPICATIONforming part 01 Letters Patent No. 389,954, dated September 25, 1888. I
Application filed July 3, 1888. Serial No. 278,954. (No model.) Patented in England Jane 14, 1888, No. 8,743.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES CHESWRIGHT, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, residing at 6 Parkhurst Road, Camden-Town, in the county of Middlesex, England, gentleman, have invented certain Improvements in Gapsules for Bottles, (for which I have received a patent in England, No. 8,743, dated June 14, 1888,) of which the following is a specification. I
My invention relates to capsules which have holes formed in the necks, so that the head of the capsule is connected to the body by strips or ban(ls,wl1ich are torn or broken on opening the bottle, so that the body of the capsule is left on the bottle.
According to my invention I perforate or otherwise weaken the capsule in two circular lines, so as to lessen the resistance of the capsule to tearing in these two lines, which leave between them a circular strip,'onc end of which is left free and may be provided with an eyelet, seal, or tag, by which it can be readily seized and torn away, leaving thebody partof the capsule on the neck of the bottle and the top part on the cork.
Figure 1 of the accompanying drawings shows a capsule made according to my invention. Fig. 2 shows the same with the strip in course of being removed, and Figs. 3 and i are corresponding views of a modification.
In Figs. 1 to 4 the upper row of openings, perforations, or wcakenings is marked a, and
the lower row is marked I), and the strip left between them is marked a.
In Figs. 1 and 2 there are openingsd of considerable size above and below the strip.
The strip 0 is cut transversely at 0, so as to leave an end, which is provided with a tag, seal, or eyelet, as atf, to enable the end of the strip 0 to be readily seized and torn away, as shown in Figs. 2 and 4. In Figs. 3 and 4. the openings are simply two-circular rows of perforations, leaving between them the strip 0, one end of which is severed ate, and provided with a tag, seal, or eyelet, f, as before.
I claim as my invention- 1. The combination, with the capsule, of two rows of openings, perforations, or weakenings, a b, leaving a strip between, severed at c to leave a free end, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination, with the capsule, of two rows of openings, perforations, or weakenings, a I), leaving a strip between, severed to leave a free end, which is provided with a tag, seal, eyelet, or similar means for readily grasping it.
In testimony whereof Ihave signed myname to this specification in the presence oftwo subscribing witnesses.
