.IOIIN VESLEY REED, OF PAXTON, ILLINOIS.
NAPKINfl-OLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 389,940, dated September 25, 1888.
Application filed October/1, 1F87.
Serial No. 251,428. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN WESLEY REED, a citizen of the United States, residing at Paxton, in the county of Ford and State ofIllinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Napkin-Holders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description ofthe invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art yto which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention has relation to improvements in napkin-holders; and it consists in the construction and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter deseribed, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
The figure ofthe drawing represents a perspective View of my improved device.
Referring to the drawing, the letter A represents ahook on the upper end of the holder.
B denotes an enlarged body or middle portion, and C is the lower portion of the device.
The letter-D indicates an enlarged transverse opening` through the body portion B, said body portion below the point e being curved outward. d is a slot in the lower portion, C, which communicates with the opening D aforesaid, said slot and opening merging intoeach other, and both representing in contour an elongated pear.
On the upper side of the holder, opposite from the base of the hook A, is a short projection, F, which forms with the hook a bearing, B. The hook is turned slightly inward from the surface ofthe body B.
The operation of my device is as followsz.
The hook A is passed through a button-hole and engages over one ofthe buttons. The inward turn of the hook permits the outside or exposed part of the holder, including the projection F, to lie dat upon the wearers breast.
Having described myinvention and the operation thereof, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The herein-described napkin-holder,eonsist ing ofthe body and lower end portion provided with a pear-shaped opening, said end portion being bent outward and the upper portion of said holder having a projection and the inwardly-bent hook above said projection, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN WESLEY REED. W'itnesses:
M. L. BoeiinDUs, E. DUFRnsNE.
