MAY V. KOELSCH, OF DELAFIELD, YVISOONSIN.
SOAP-RECEPTAC LE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 389,930, dated September 25, 1888.
Application filed April 14. 1888.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MAY V. KOELSOI-I, of Delafield, in the county of Waukesha and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and usefulImprovements in Soap-Receptacles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of said invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Heretofore it has been very common to place the soap used in laundries in a receptacle therefor in the upper part of the face of a washboard; but such an arrangement is objectionable in that the soap is likely to be frequently and unnecessarily drenched with water, thereby washing away and wasting considerable portions of the soap, and a permanent recep tacle for the soap secured to the wash-tub is undesirable, for if it contains aperforated bottom the water thatis unavoidably thrown onto the soap in the process of washing runs off the soap and through the bottom of the receptacle, thereby wasting the soap and dripping into the tub or on the floor, and if the bottom of such permanent receptacle be tight it will retain any water that may get into it, whereby the soap will be softened or dissolved and wasted.
My invention has for its object the providing a receptacle for soap that may be readily attached to the tub temporarily and that can be easily removed therefrom for cleaning or other purposes.
The drawing is a perspective view of my device.
The receptacleA is a small shallow open-top box, preferably constructed of galvanized iron, and is provided with one or more hooks or clasps, B B, which clasps are attached to the box at the upper edge of the rear wall, and are turned or bent over rearwardly and downwardly, and are adapted to hook onto the edge of a tub and hold the receptacle firmly in position on the side of the tub. The hooks or Serial No. 270,703. (No model.l
clasps are constructed of wire and are each provided with a shoulder, 0, beyond which shoulder the end of the wire is carried downwardly a little distance. These inner ends of the clasps are inserted through apertures formed in the rear wall of the box or receptacle, and are passed down behind the wall until the shoulders G C are in the apertures in the wall of the box, whereby when the clasps or hooks are placed over the side of the tub the receptacle will be held firmly in position, resting and being supported on the shouldersO G. The rear or outer ends of these clasps are con nected together, as shown in the drawing, the two hooks or clasps being thus formed of a single piece of wire. I also preferably provide one or more lugs or braces, D D, projecting downwardly from and in plane with the rear wallof the receptacle,\vhich lugs or braces are adapted to bear against the side of the tub and hold the receptacle against tipping down at its front; but these braces D D are only nec essary where the box is very shallow, for if the box is sufficiently deep the rear wall will furnish a sufficient bearing to hold the receptacle in horizontal position.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- As an article of manufacture, a soapreceptacle consisting of a shallow box, A, and hooks B B, formed of a single piece of wire, whereby said hooks are united together at their free ends, the inner ends of said hooks being each provided with a bend or shoulder, 0, adapted to pass through and bear against the sides of an aperture in the upper part of the rear wall of the box A, the ends of which wire extend downwardly below said apertures and bear against the wall of said box, substantially as described.
In testimony whercofI affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MAY V. KOELSOH.

WILLIAM M. J acouns, ELIZABETH J AOQUES.
