' WASH BOARD HOLDER. No. 327,747. Patented Oct. 6, 1885,

j ,7 ATTDRNEYS" UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY MONROE WINES, OF CENTRE MORIOHES, NEV YORK.
WASH-BOARD HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 327,747, dated October 6, 1885 Application filed June 11, 1885.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY MONROE WINEs, of Centre Moriches, in the county of Suffolk and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved VVash-Board Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a sectional side elevation of a wash-tub, showing a side elevation of a washboard and of one of my improved wash-board holders. Fig. 2 is a plan View of a washtub, a wash-board, and my improved wash-board holder. Fig. 3 is a sectional side elevation of a lug and a side elevation of a part of a hook of my improved holder. Fig. 4 is a bottom view of a lug; and Figs. 5 and 6 are a front and a side elevation of one of the hooks, shown full size.
The object of this invention is to provide holders for securing wash'boards in washtubs while being used, and which shall be so constructed as to hold the said wash-boards securely in place while allowing them to be easily and quickly placed in and removed from the tubs.
The invention consists in the combination of socket-lugs and locking-hooks with the wash-tub and wash-board, as will be hereinter fully described and then claimed.
A represents an ordinary wash-tub, and B an ordinary wash-board. To the bottom of the tub A, near one side, are attached lugs G, which have flaring recesses D in their inner sides to guide the hooks E into place, and
upward projections upon their middle parts recessed in the lower side to form sockets F to receive and engage with the said hooks E. The shanks of the hooks E are secured to the lower sides of the side bars of the wash-board Serial No. 168,414. (No model.)
B by screws or other suitable means. The lugs O and hooks E are galvanized to prevent them from rusting and thus staining the clothes.
In using the improvement the wash-board B 1s inserted in a vertical position in the tub A, with the hooks E near the recessed inner sides of the lugs C, and is then moved outward until the said hooks E enter the sockets F, when the upper end of the said wash-board B is lowered until its side bars rest upon the upper edge of the said washtub A, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
With this construction the wash-board will be held securely in place while being used, and will be prevented from jumping up and bruis- Ing or injuring the person using the said wash-board.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination, with a wash-tub, A, and a wash-board, B, of the lugs 0, attached to the bottom of the said wash-tub, and having side recesses, D, and raised sockets F, and
the hooks E, attached to the side bars of the said wash-board, and engaging with the said sock et-lu gs, substantially as herein shown and described, whereby the said wash-board will be held securely in place while being used, as set forth.
2. The combination, with a wash-tub and a wash-board placed therein, of the socketed lugs C, secured in said tub, and the hooks E, attached on the side bars of the wash-board, substantially as described, whereby, when the said hooks are engaged with the said lugs, the wash-board will beheld in place, as set forth.
HENRY MONROE wINEs.
