- deformation of the peripheral portion of the cylinder caused by thermal expansion is prevented by designing the cylinder to have a cylindrical configuration and by obviating the adverse effect caused by the thermal displacement of the peripheral portion of the cylinder by causing the extension of the contact surfaces between the guide rings and the stationary ring to interest each other at or near the neutral point of the cylinder.
