Be it known that I, WILLIAM S. COOPER, a resident'of invented certain Imprvements in Watcr- Closets, of which the following is a specification. y

The object of my invention is to provide means for hinging the lid or seat of a watercloset to the earthenware bowl vwithout riskof breakage of the latter, due to the strain upon vthe hinge. This object I attain in the manner Iwhich I will now proceed .to-describef'refe fence being had to the accompanying draw ings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a lvratercloset bowl with seat hinged thereto in accord' ance with my invention, the seat being shown in the raised p osition.V Fig. 2 is a longitud-v I nal section on an enlarged scale, showing vthe means adopted for secu ring the hinge-plate to' the earthenware bowl; and Fig. 3 is a similar section, showing a modification.

In `carrying ont my invention I secure to each side ofthe bowl A of the closet a plate, B, having aprojecting pin, b, which is adapted to a socket, d, cna plate, D, secured tothelid or seatF ofthe closet. A lateral opening. or recess, e, is formed in each of the side walls of the bowl A for the reception of'lhe'deviees whereby the hinge-plates are secured to said bowl.
