Description

UNITED STATES PATENT" OFFICE.;
GEORGE F. EERHARD, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
BUCKLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 382,594, dated May 8, 1888,
Application filed December 27, 1887. Serial No. 259,069.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE F. EEERHARD, of Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Trace Buck1eand` Bail; and I do hereby declare the following to he a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same.
My invention vrelates lto improvements in a trace buckle and bail in which the cross-bars that come in contact with the trace are grooved so as not to collide with the stitching of the trace, to the end that such stitching is not worn away, to the injury of the trace.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view. Fig. 2 is a det-ail of the bail, and
` Fig. 3 is a detail of the buckle separated from the bail.
A represents the trace-buckle; B, the trace; C, the bail, to which latter the hame-tug D is attached, the parts thus far described being in the main substantially as heretofore used. (See United States Patent No. 122,545, of January 9,1872, granted toH. S. Woodruff.) Heretofore the objection to this variety of buckle has been that it wore thestitching of the trace, l
(No model.)
from the fact that the trace bore heavily, more especially over cross-bars a and a of the buckle and on the cross-bar o ofthe bail, and
and do not materially weaken the cross-bars,
and the latter, if necessary, can be made atrifle heavier where the grooves occur. In this class of buckle the tongue G (shown connected with the buckle) is sometimes omitted from this part and placed on the bail. Either construction will answer the purpose.
What I claim is-` A trace-buckle the cross bar or bars of which are provided with grooves, which latter register with the stitching of the trace, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I sign this specification, in the presence'of two witnesses, this 27th day of October, 1887. i.
GEORGE F. EBERHA'RD. Witnesses:
GHAs. H. DoRER, ALBERT E, LYNCH.
