WILLIAM I. FISHBAOK, OF MAYNARD, IOWA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO ALBERT H. MIEHE, OF MAYNARD, IOWA.
COMBINED HALTER SQUARE AND CHIM-STRAP BUCKLE.
SEEGIFIGA'EION forming part of Letters Patent No. 688,990, dated December 17, 19011.
Application filed June 28, 1901. Serial No. 66,387. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom it rml/y concern:
Beit known that I, WILLIAM P. FIsHBAoK,
a citizen of the United States, residing at May-V nard, in the county of Fayette and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Halter Square and Chin-Strap Buckle; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable 1o others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference'being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
I5 This invention has relation to improvements in halters; and it consists in the novel construction and arrangements of parts, all as will be hereinafter more fully explained, and particularly pointed out in the appended zo claim.
The annexed drawings, to which reference is made, fully illustrate my invention, in which- Figure l represents a face view of my device. Fig. 2 is a central vertical sectional View of the same, and Fig. 3 is a rear view. Fig. 4 is a cross-section of the same.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates the chin-strap in loop 3o form, and B represents the combined square and buckle, which is constructed of metal and formed of a single piece. This square and buckle comprises the parallel side bars ad, which arejoined to one another at one end by a cross-bar b, and near the opposite end said side bars are brought toward one another, providing a much narrower end where the chin-strap is secured thereto, said narrow end being joined by a cross-bar c.
4o Intermediate of the two end cross bars aforesaid is a cross-bar d, which divides the device into two openings 'e and f, the former to receive the cheek-strap of ahalter and nosestrap, while the other openin g, f, provides the buckle portion.
O designates a cross-bar, which is odset from the bars constituting the frame of the device, the same having its ends g g bent at right angles to the bar and said bent ends joining the two side bars, and said drop-bar 5o is provided with a stud h, which provides a tongue for the buckle end of the device.
It will be seen from the above description, when taken in connection with the annexed drawings, that I construct a combined square 5 5 and buckle for a halter of a single 'piece and that in constructing the stud-bar with a drop or offset it allows the straight passage of the free end of the strap, and the en'd is carried over the cross-bar d, and the extreme end of 6o said strap is passed backward and between the two parts of the chin-strap, thus providing means whereby the ring on a halter connected to the chin-strap cannot catch on the buckle, and the chin-strap being adjustable, so that it can be let out or shortened7 a better fit can be obtained and the ends of the strap cannot curl up or hang in the animals feed while eating, and a device as herein described and shown is durable, ornamental, 7o and at the same time cheap to manufacture.
Having described my invention, what I claim is- As an improved article of manufacture, the combined halter square and buckle herein de- 7 5 scribed and shown, comprising the side bars, connected together by the cross-bars h, d, o and the angle-bar C, provided with the stud 7i, said side bars being flat from the end b, to the bar C, the ends curving downward and 8o connected by the cross-bar c, the whole constructed and arranged as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature' in presence of two witnesses.
VILLIAM P. FISHBAOK.
Witnesses:
JAMES CONRAD, F. S. BURDICK.
