Definitions

  • the thread severing ring is provided at'an end face with a substantially ring-shaped arrangement of spaced recesses and teeth formed between such recesses, these teeth each having an inner sharp cutting edge for engaging and separating or cutting a thread.
  • the teeth are arranged in a direction facing away from the end face of the bobbin tube or sleeve.
  • the thread catch ring is located at the region of the end face of the thread severing ring. This thread catch ring extends at least partially beneath the teeth of the thread severing ring when the tube is completely pushed onto the chuck.
  • thread clamping means are also provided.
  • the present invention relates to a new and improved construction of chuck or mandrel for a bobbin tube serving as a bobbin support and embodying a thread catch zone provided with a thread severing or separation ring arranged concentrically with respect to the chuck, the thread severing ring is provided at its end face with a ring-shaped arrangement of recesses and thus produced teeth each having an inner sharp cutting edge for engaging and cutting a thread.
  • Such type chuck or mandrel is arranged, for instance, at a winder for endless filaments or threads equipped with an automatic bobbin change device.
  • the thread severing ring equipped with teeth arranged at an end face and rigidly connected with the chuck together with a confronting end face of the bobbin tube maintaining an intermediate space or compartment forms the thread catch zone.
  • the thread arrives at this intermediate space or compartment and is intended to be engaged by the teeth and separated or cut.
  • an outwardly tapering conical portion which slightly extends past the region of the teeth, i.e., tapers in the direction of free end of the tube, on the one hand, forms a stop for the bobbin tube and, on the other hand, the outwardly directed inclination of the conical portion allows, during doffing of the bobbin, easy removal of thread windings which possibly remain at such location.
  • a further drawback of such devices resides in the necessity of maintaining a given minimum height of the thread severing ring owing to the requirements of strength and the constructional design. Therefore, the tubes likewise must possess a minimum wall thickness which is governed by the foregoing, since the end faces of the tubes constitute a boundary surface of the thread catch zone.
  • a further object of the invention relates to an improved construction of bobbin support chuck which positively ensures that the thread or the like will be severed during a bobbin change operation.
  • a chuck for a tube serving as bobbin support and having a thread catch zone is provided with a thread severing ring arranged concentrically with respect to the chuck.
  • the thread severing ring is equipped at an end face with a substantially ringshaped arrangement of recesses and thereby formed teeth having inner sharp cutting edges for engaging and cutting a thread.
  • the teeth are arranged in a direction which faces away from the end face of the tube.
  • a thread catch ring is located at the region of the end face of the thread severing ring, this thread catch ring extending at least partially beneath the teeth by means of a conical thread guide surface when the tube is completely pushed onto the chuck.
  • thread clamping means are also provided.
  • the thread severing ring is movably arranged upon the chuck in order to be able to easily remove any thread windings located between the thread severing ring and the thread catch ring.
  • FIG. 1 is a fragmentary longitudinal sectional view of a bobbin tube chuck with a bobbin tube mounted thereat;
  • FIG. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary perspective view of the thread severing or separation ring
  • FIGS. 3, 4 and 5 are respective enlarged sections of a thread catch ring and thread severing ring
  • FIG. 6 is a fragmentary longitudinal sectional view of a further embodiment of bobbin tube chuck with a bobbin tube mounted thereat.
  • FIG. 1 there is illustrated therein a chuck or mandrel 50 embodying a chuck or mandrel shaft 1 with a roller bearing 3 carrying a chuck sleeve 2.
  • a thread catch ring 4 At the end of the chuck sleeve 2 facing the side of the machine, indicated by the directional arrow A, there is arranged a thread catch ring 4 which is fixedly connected with the chuck sleeve 2 by means of a bolt 5 or equivalent structure.
  • a thread severing or separation ring 6 is displaceably arranged at a cylindrical sliding surface 7 between the thread catch ring 4 and a stop 8.
  • This severing ring 6 possesses a collar 9 which slightly conically tapers in the direction of the sleeve as well as a stop for receiving a bobbin tube 11. Furthermore, the thread severing ring 6"possesses a ring-shaped row of substantially roof-shaped inclined or bevelled teeth 12 arranged in a direction pointing away from the end face of the bobbin tube. These teeth 12 are formed at their sides by recesses 13 tapering in radialdirection and at the outer surface by means of the surface 14 which tapers conically at an inclination slightly towards the tube 11- and internally by the conical surface 15 which tapers at an inclination away from the tube. By means of the conical surface 15 and the recesses 13 there is formed a cutting edge 16 which is positioned at an inclination with respect to the axis of the chuck.
  • the thread catch ring 4 possesses a conical guide surface 17'confronting the thread severing or separation ring 6, this conical surface 17 partially extending beneath the teeth 12 of such thread severing ring, as shown. Furthermore, the thread catch ring 4 possesses a cylindrical thread guide surface 18. As best seen by referring to FIG. 3 a thread clamping space or gap 19 is present between the thread catch ring 4 and the thread severing ring 6,.the width of which is governed by the spacing of end wall 20'of the thread severing ring 6 and end wall 21 of the thread catch ring 4. A projec-' tion in the form at a cam or dog 22 and belonging to the thread catch ring'4 determines such spacing.
  • FIG. 4 illustrates a variant .of the thread clamping space or gap 23 .wherein theboundaries or boundary surfaces thereof are formed by a conical surface 24 belonging to the thread catch ring 4 and the end or boundary surface 20 belonging to the thread severing or separation ring 6. y
  • Athread clamping space or gap 25 is formed by the conical surface 24 of the thread catch ring 4 and an end or boundary surface 26 of an elastic ring member 27 engaged by or seated at the thread severing or separation ring 6.
  • This elastic ring member 27 is formed, for instance, of rubber or another suitable elastic material.
  • FIG. 6 illustrates a variant form of thread severing or separation ring 28 which is connected by a cylindrical surface 29 with the bobbin tube sleeve 11 and can be withdrawn together therewith from chuck sleeve 30.
  • a chuck device for a tube serving as a bobbin support comprising a chuck sleeve, a thread catch ring and a thread servering ring defining therebetween a thread catch zone mounted on said chuck sleeve, said thread severing ring having an end face provided with a substantially ring-shaped arrangement of spaced teeth and intermediate recesses, each of said teeth having an inner sharp cutting edge for engaging and cutting a thread, said teeth being arranged in a direction which faces away from the end of the tube when mounted on the chuck sleeve, said thread catch ring being arranged at the region, of said end face of the thread severing ring, said thread catch ring having a thread guide surface extending partially beneath the teeth when the tube is completely pushed onto the chuck sleeve, and
  • thread clamp means for the thread.
  • each of the teeth possess a conical outer surface inclined in the direction of the tube.
  • each of the teeth possess a conical inner surface and said inner cutting edge is inclined.
  • the conical inner surface tapers at an inclination away from the tube.
  • the thread catch ring possesses a cylindrical thread guide surface and a conical thread guide surface extending in the direction towards the tube, at least one of said guide surfaces defining said thread guide surface extending partially beneath the teeth.
