The same hanger can be used at one time to hold childs clothing and at another time to support adult clothing. In all cases, the clothing is not distorted in shape when stored on the hanger as distinguished from the changes in shape that now occur when clothing is improperly supported on conventional hangers.
SUMMARY My hanger comprises first and second frame members adapted to slidably engage each other over a range of positions which vary from a first position of maximum overall extension (used for example for adult 'sizes) to a second position of minimum overall extension (used for example in child's sizes). Manually adjustable means can be used to detachably clamp the members together in any desired one of these positions.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS In the drawings:
FIG. 1 is a detail perspective of a portion of my invention;
FIG. 2 is a side elevation of my invention in position of minimum extension;
FIG. 3 is a view similar to FIG. 2 but showing an intermediate position;
FIG. 4 is a view similar to FIG. 2 but showing a position of maximum extension;
FIG. 5 is a detail showing another portion of my invention; and
FIG. 6 is a section taken along line 6-6 in FIG. 1.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS First and second elongated members 10 and 12 lie in vertical planes with upper and lower horizontal sections interconnected by a curved section.
Each upper section 10B and 128 has a loop 14 secured thereto at each end by a transverse leg 10C and 12C whereby a region of separation 16 exists between the two legs. Each section slides through the loop of the other section. The loops 14 in each sliding member are formed tightly enough to provide a friction effect on the member which extends through it.'
The weight of a garment on the hanger increases this friction effect.
A clamp supporting a bar engaging hook 18 is disposed in the region to detachably clamp the members together in desired position.
l-Iook 18 has a bottom horizontal spool 20 with an O- ring 22 disposed therearound. Housing 24 through which the hook extends has oppositely disposed curved edges 26 which engage the sections 108 and 12B and squeezes same against the O-ring. The housing acts as a keeper or clip. The spool (and hook) are held centered during extension and retraction. The housing 24 merely retains the proper spacing between the members 10B and 12B with compression of the O-ring against the spool 20.
The device works simply by grasping an end with each hand and either pushing together or pulling apart, thereby adjusting the hanger to the desired size. The pressure required to overcome the friction of both members sliding through the loops of each other is slight. The spool, housing and O-ring arrangement serves to hold the hook centered regardless of size adjustment.
While I have described my invention with particular reference to the drawings, such is not to be considered as limiting its actual scope.
Having thus described this invention, what is asserted as new is:
l. A hanger for clothing comprising:
first and second frame members adapted to slidably engage each other over a range of positions which vary between a first position of maximum overall extension to a second or minimum overall extension;
said members having upper and lower horizontal extensions, each extension having a transverse loop at an end, each extension extending slidably through the loop of the other extension;
the lower horizontal extensions being disposed side by side in close relationship and the upper horizontal extensions (having a region in which they are more) being widely spaced than the lower members;
a clamp comprising a housing supporting a bar engaging hook disposed in the widely spaced region to detachably clamp the members together in desired position;
said hook having a bottom horizontal spool with an O-ring disposed therearound;
a. said housing (which) (acts) acting as a keeper or clip and through which the hook extends, and has oppositely disposed curved edges which engage said more widely spaced extensions and squeeze said more widely spaced extensions against the O ring, to (lock) detachably clamp the members together in any desired one of said positions.

Claims (1)

1. A hanger for clothing comprising: FIRST AND SECOND FRAME MEMBERS ADAPTED TO SLIDABLY ENGAGE EACH OTHER OVER A RANGE OF POSITIONS WHICH VARY BETWEEN A FIRST POSITION OF MAXIMUM OVERALL EXTENSION TO A SECOND OR MINIMUM OVERALL EXTENSION; SAID MEMBERS HAVING UPPER AND LOWER HORIZONTAL EXTENSIONS, EACH EXTENSION HAVING A TRANSVERSE LOOP AT AN END, EACH EXTENSION EXTENDING SLIDABLY THROUGH THE LOOP OF THE OTHER EXTENSION; THE LOWER HORIZONTAL EXTENSIONS BEING DISPOSED SIDE BY SIDE IN CLOSE RELATIONSHIP AND THE UPPER HORIZONTAL EXTENSIONS (HAVING A REGION IN WHICH THEY ARE MORE) BEING WIDELY SPACED THAN THE LOWER MEMBERS; A CLAMP COMPRISING A HOUSING SUPPORTING A BAR ENGAGING HOOK DISPOSED IN THE WIDELY SPACED REGION TO DETACHABLY CLAMP THE MEMBERS TOGETHER IN DESIRED POSITION; SAID HOOK HAVING A BOTTOM HORIZONTAL SPOOL WITH AN O-ring disposed therearound; a. said housing (which) (acts) acting as a keeper or clip and through which the hook extends, and has oppositely disposed curved edges which engage said more widely spaced extensions and squeeze said more widely spaced extensions against the ''''O'''' ring, to (lock) detachably clamp the members together in any desired one of said positions.
