SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 379,851, dated March 20, 1888.

To aZZ whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, Join: BOLAND, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Raymond, in the county of Montgomery and State of Illinois, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Barrel-Rollers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my new and improved barrel-roller. Fig. 2 is a front perspective of the same, showing in dotted lines the manner in which it is adapted to be secured to barrels or kegs of different sizes; and Fig. 3 is an enlarged view of the lower end of the handle, showing more clearly the manner of adjusting the clamping-arms.

Similar letters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the figures.

My invention has relation to barrel or keg rollers; and it has for its object to provide means whereby barrels or kegs of different sizes may be easily and conveniently removed from one place to another; and it consists in the improved construction and combination of parts of the same, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

In the accompanying drawings, the letter A indicates a handle, of the usual construction,

' having its lower end cut away or beveled, as

shown at B, the object of which will be hereinafter more fully described.

0 denotes twospring clampingarms, curved, as shown at D and E, and having at their up per ends apertures. These ends are adjustably secured to the lower beveled or cut-away end of the handle by screw-threaded bolts G curved ends J J, which engage the heads of the barrels or kegs inside of the chines.

The manner of adjusting my improvement to barrels or kegs of different sizes is as follows: When a barrel of a larger size is to be U clamped between the grapples, the nut on the lower bolt is loosened and the nut on the upper bolt is tighted, thus laterally expanding the clampingarms, while, if it should be desired to clamp asmaller barrel or keg the nut on the lower bolt is tightened and the nut on the upper bolt is loosened.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the operation and advantages of my invention Will be readily understood without requiring further explanation. It will be seen that it is simple and strong in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, and is exceedingly useful for the purpose for which it is designed.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is

In a barrel-roller, the combination of a handle, having its lower end beveled, with two spring clamping-arms, bolts and nuts adjusta bly securing said arms to the handle, and grapples journaled in the free ends of said clamping-arms.
