GUNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALLEN P. CREQUE, OF NEV YORK, N. Y.
BOILER-PEDESTAL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters. Patent No. 375,734, dated January 3, 1888.
Application filed January 3, 1885.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALLEN P. CREQUE, of New York city, in the county and State of New York,haveinventedanImprovementinBoiler- Pedestals, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawngs, 1s a specification, like letters on the drawings representing like parts.
My invention is a boiler pedestal or support of that class in which provision is made for shortening the support by breaking off or detaching portions oftthe upright forming a part of the said support. The present invention consists, essentially, in a novel construction of the upright and bracket or member supported thereon, making a boiler-stand of great strength and of very simple and inexpensive construction.
Figure l is a vertical longitudinal section of a portion of a boiler stand or support embodying this invention, the section being taken on line 00 00, Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of a portion of the upright and bracket or member cooperating therewith; Fig. 4, a section on line :0, Fig.3; and Fig. 5, a horizontal section on line y Fig. 3.
The upright is composed of a single solid casting consisting of a central web, a,provided with lateral flanges b to give it suflicientstiffness, the said upright having preferably cast integral therewith legs or feet 0, constituting the base of the pedestal. The said uprightis preferably provided with crossgrooves, separating the upright into a series of sections, one or more of which may be removed, as required, to shorten the same.
Each of the sections of the upright is composed of aflanged web provided with inclined ribs or projections e, constituting a seat or bearing for the socket f of the bracket or cooperating member m, to be connected with the said uprights to form the complete pedestal. The socket f extendsdown between the flanges b, and as thelatter are preferably more widely separated at the base than at the top extremity of the upright they are provided with shoulders or projections g, which engage the edges 2 of the socket f, (see Fig. 4,) and prevent the latter from moving laterally on the upright. Each section of the upright and the sides of the socketf are provided with corre- Serial No. 151,929. (No model.)
sponding holes, h, to receive a key or fastening device, 70, by which the socket is locked or fastened securely on the seat or bearing proj ectious e of the upright.
The upright is substantially H'shaped in crosssection, and the socketf consists, essentiall y, of two bearing-plates embracing the web portion a of the upright between the flanges b or the engaging projections 9 thereof.
In another application, No. 151,926, I have shown a cylindrical upright provided externally with grooves and internally with seats to receive the foot or shank of a bracket, and in another application, No. 151,927, I have shown a cylindrical upright having coneshaped sections adapted to co-operate, the uppermost one with a socket of a bracket, the
lowermost one fitting inclined seats on a pro jection above a base, and in another case, No. 157,928, I have shown an upright having grooved flanges, the flanges being shaped to form seats. In this present application I do not claim anything shown in the applications referred to, for herein the upright is of peculiar shape, and the said upright, and not the flanges, is grooved.
I claim 1. In a boiler pedestal or support, an up right consisting of a central web havin g flanges and provided with ribs or projections, and having grooves to outline sections, which may be removed by breaking along thesaid grooves, combined with a co -operating member or bracket provided with a socket having bearing-plates which engage the ribs or projections between the flanges thereof, substantially as described.
2. In aboiler pedestal orsupport, an upright consisting of a central web provided with flanges and having grooves to outline sections, which may be removed by breaking along the said grooves, each of the said sections having a bearing or seat, combined with a co-operating member or bracket provided with a socket having bearingplates, which engage the seat of the upright between the flanges thereof, and a locking device, whereby the said socket and upright are securely fastened together, substantially as described.
3. In aboiler pedestal or support, an upright composed of a central web having grooves to outline sections, and having flanges, the said ICC Wedge-shaped bearing web being provided with a seat or bearing, and the flanges with engaging projections g, combined with theco-operating member or bracket, having a socket composed of bearing-plates adapted to engage the seat of the web and to to be engaged at their edges by the said flanges or projections g, substantially as described.
4. In a boiler-pedestal, a metal H shaped upright having a web-like center provided with projections or ribs 6, combined with the bracket m and wedgeshaped socket attached thereto and adapted to engage the said inclined ribs or projections, substantially as described. g
In testimony whereofI have signed my name [5 this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
