SCREEN FOR MAGIC-LANTERNS AND PHOTOGRAPHERS USE.

.To all whom, t may concern:

Be it known that we, EDWARD H. PAEsoNs and EDWARD U. FEAZER, citizens of the United States, residing at Kane, in the county of McKean and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Screens for Magic-Lanterns, Photographers, and Theatrical Companies; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and .use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specication.

Our invention relates to an improved screen for magic-lantern views, tbc.; and it consists in certain details of construction and combination of parts,whereby the same may readily be taken apart and folded to occupy butlittle space, and may be easy to place the same in position for use without outside support, as will be fully described hereinafter.

In the accompanying` drawings, Figure l is aside elevation of our improved screen, which is constructed in accordance with our invention. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a plan view showing the dovetailed top piece in position. Fig. Il is a detail plan view of the bottom cross-piece detached from the frame-work.

To construct a screen in accordance with our invention, we provide a frame-work consisting of two upright pieces a, to each of which is attached cross-pieces b, or feet, which are connected to the uprights aby wood-screws or nails, or may be mortised in any desired manner. Formed in the top of each of these uprights a are dovetailed slots, which, when engaged with a corresponding dovetal formed on the outer extremities of the upper piece c, serve to hold the uprights a separated the one from the other. Formed at suitable points in the face of the uprights a are inclined notches d, in which the lower cross-piecef is secured. A suitable piece of canvas or other fabric g, of a suitable size, is tacked orattached to these cross-pieces cf in a manner that when the cross-piece c is in position the lower piece f will be a short distance above the notches d, and thereby afford a means of stretching the screen. Formed on one end of the cross-piece is a small ratchet-wheel 7c, which, in connection with a pawl Z, affords a means for further stretching the canvas.

To take the frame apart, the cross-piecef is first. disengaged from the notches d and the upper one then removed. The canvas may be rolled about either of these pieces and the whole made to occupy but little space.

Having thus described our invention, we claim- The herein-described screen, consisting of the uprights a, providedwith cross-pieces or feet b and each having a dovetailed slot at the top and an inclined notch CZ near the base, and the two cross-pieces c f, having a piece of suitable fabric attached thereto and adapted to engage with the slots and notches, substantially as described.
