I UNITED STATES PATENT EEicE.
JONASD. GOTTSGHALK, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
FASTENER FOR NECK-WEAR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 373,930. dated November 29, 1887.
Application filed J nne 3, 1887. Serial No. 240,125. (No model.)
especially designed to be used with standing-- up collars and readily applied to the article of necl wear without stitching or otherwise permanently fastening the same; and the invention consists of the combination, with a necktie, bow, or other article of neck-wear, of a fastening device formed of a tapering body having a central recess for the shank of the collar-button, and forwardly-bent retainingflanges that are applied to the face-band orloop of the necktie, how, 810., as will appear more fully hereinafter, and finally pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a rear elevation of a bow with my improved fastening device. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section of the same; and Fig. 3 is a top view ofthe blank, from which the fastener is made.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
In the drawings, A represents a bow, necktie, or other article of neck-wear; B, a fastener on the same, which is preferably made of sheet metal, with a slightly-tapering body having a central recess, at, extending downward from the upper edge of the fastener, for engagement with the shank of the collar-button.
The fastener B isprovided with forwardlybent flanges b b, that extend parallel to the body of the fastener, so as to nearly abut against each other, said flanges retaining the fastener B on the loop or face-band of the bow or other article of neck-wear, and permitting it to slide or move thereon without requiring any other fastening device, such as stitching,
riveting, and the like.
The fastener is applied by its recess a to the collar-button in the same manner as other fasteners of this class, and retains the bow or necktie in position on the collar without permitting the riding of the same. It is conveniently applied and forms a simple'and cheap .device for retaining the bow or other article of neckwear on the collar-button of a stand-up collar.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A necktie fastener, substantially as described, consisting of a tapered body of flat metal provided with adownwardlyextending notch or recess, and end flanges bent rearwardly and then parallel with the front plate, for the purpose of being reniovably connected with the neck-wear, as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JONAS D. GOTTSOHALK.
