FIRE-PLACE HEATER.
PECIPICAIION forming part of Letters Patient No. 373,846, dated November 29, 1887.

To aZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN B. OLDERSHAW, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fire-Place Heaters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain improvements in fire-place stoves of that class for which Letters Patent of the United States were granted me March 10, 1874, No. 148,491, and May 24, 1881, No. 242,02
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in Which Figurel is a front elemtion of the stove, except that the upper right-hand corner is broken away to show in vertical section that portion indicated on line 1 of Fig. 3. Fig. 2 is-a vertical section of the stove on the line 2 2. Fig. 3' is a horizontal section on the line 3 3 and shows a top view of the airdrum. Fig. 4 is an inverted plan of the stove-top, being that part above the line 3 3 in Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a vertical section of the stove-top and dome of the magazine on the line 5 5.
The letter A designates the stove-front; B, the feed-door; G, the ash-drawer opening; D, air-inlets to the air-drum D.
This invention consists of the construction, combination, and arrangement in the stovetop of two independent hot-air chambers, E and F. The magazine G has a dome, 6, surrounding which is a horizontal flange, c, having holes d for the passage of smoke and products of combustion to a chamber, 6, above the dome b and between it and the lowermost hot-air chamber, F, of said two top chambers. In the drawings darts indicate the direction of smoke, and arrows the direction of air. A smokeflue, f, leads from the combustionchamber e up through the said lowermost hotair chamber, F, to a horizontal smoke-flue, 9, between the said two hot-air chambers, and thence out at the pipe h. An air-drum, D, incloses the rear half of the stove and at the front has inlets D. This air-drum has communication with each of the two hot-airchambers E F. To the topmost chamber, E, two
passages, t, (see Figs. 1 and 3,) lead from the drum, and to the lowermost chamber, F, a
flue, It, leads from the drum. Thus each hotair chamber is supplied by separate and independent passages. It will be seen that as the horizontal smoke-flue 9 passes between the two chambers the lowermost chamber, F, is heated both at the bottom and top, and the topmost chamber, E, is heated at the bottom. Both of the hot-air chambers are open at the front side.
By the herein-described construction and arrangement of two liotair chambers in the top ofthe stove a much greater supply ofheated air is produced for the apartment.
Having described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States 1. In a fireplace heater, the combination, with the vertical hot-air drum D at the rear of the stove, of two independent hot-air chambers, E F, both located above the drum in the stove-top, one of said chambers being above the other, and a separate air-supply passage from the said drum to each chamber, as set forth.
2. In a fireplace heater, the combination,
with the vertical hot-air drum D at the rearof the stove, of twoindependent hotair chambers, E F, both located above the drumin the stove-top, one of said chambers being above the other, and a horizontal smoke-flue, g, between said two chambers, as set forth.
3. In a fire-place heater, the combination,
with the hot-air drum D at the rear of the st ove, of a hot-air chamber, F, located above the drum in the stovetop, an air-supply passage, k, leading from the drum to the chamber, a magazine, G, a combustion-chamber, e,'between said hot-air chamber and magazine, a horizontal smoke flue, 9, extending across above said hot-air chamber, and a smoke-flue, f, leading from the combustion chamber through the hot-air chamber to the horizontal smoke-flue, as set forth.
