Description

PfW. CORCORAN.' NEK'YOKE.
No. 373,816, Patented Nov. 29; 1887.
Wunemf. inve/ifm? n qdmm,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PATRICK W.4 CORCORAN,
oE sENEoA, -ILLINoIs NECK-YOKE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 373,816, dated November 29, 1887. Application tiled August l5, 1887. Serial No. 2l6,993. (No model.) v
.To all whom it may concern.n
Be it known that I, PATRICK W. CoRcoEAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Seneca, in the county of La Salle and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Neck-Yoke Connections for Double Harness; and I do declarethe following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the Same, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings, and to theletters and figures ot' reference marked thereomwhich form a part of this specification.
The special object of the invention is to dispense with neck-yoke attachments made of leather with sewed buckle or rivets, ,and to make a metallic connection between the yoke and collar-strap, said connection being detachable. By my invention I greatly lessen the cost of the connection, while I make it much more durable. r
Figure l of the drawings is a front elevation showing a pole neck-yoke and collar-strap connected by my detachable loop; Fig. 2, a detail View of one form of loop.
In the drawings, A' represents the yoke, B the apertured median leather through. which the pole passes, and G metallic loops made fast on the ends of the yoke.
Dis the collar-strap,.with the buckle and V ring d d', and dz the spring-hook which fastens to the ring d'.
E is the metallic loop which connects the yoke with the collar-strap. I make it in the form of a coiled-wire spring, as shown in Fig. 2 ot' the drawings, or of a band, as shown in Fig. 3. The coiled spring is put on or taken oft' the xed loops C by lifting one end and turning the spring until the other end is passed.
I am` aware ofthe double-harness pole-yokes described in Patents Nos. 54,690, 97,359, and 153,638; but they do not embody my idea or contain the gist of my invention, which consists in constructing and combining the cockeyes E E with the yoke and collar-straps so that the cockeyes can be quickly detached from the yoke, thus allowing the cockeyes, collar-straps, and collars to be taken off together and remain together with the rest of the harness. None of the devices in the patents above referred to will admit of this; hence What I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is-
Thecombination of a neck-yoke having end loops,C C, collar-straps D D, and coil-spring cockeves E E, whereby the collar, collar-straps, and cockeyes may always remain fastened together, being attachable to and detachable 6o from the yoke, as described.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
