JonN MOHLBERG, on NEW YORK, N.- Y.
BOTTOM BAR FUR SHADES.
.PECIFICATiEON forming part of Letters Patent No. 372,039, dated October 25, 1887.
Application filed August 3, 1886.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN MOHLBERG, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottom Bars for Shades, of which the following is a specification.
'This invention relates to an improved bottom bar for shades, which can be easily adapted to the lower edge of the shade, and which also serves for applying the fringe or other ornament. 7
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a face view of my improved bot tom bar for shades applied on a shade. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section of the same;
verse sections showing different modifications of said bar.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the core of my improved bottom bar for shades, which core is made of wood or other suitable material, of oblong, oval, or other shape. On both sides of the core A are applied sheet- Inetal'face-strips B, which are ornamented in any suitable manner by embossing or otherwise, said strips being extended laterally beyond the edge of the core at the upper or lower edge, or both, of the bottom bar, said extensions constituting spring-jaws O, which form an automatic spring-clasp, the' edge of each jaw being provided with inturned springfianges b, which serve as stops to retain the doubled-up lower edge of the shade, as well as the enlarged edge of the ornamental fringe D, which flanges are shown in different crosssections. The shades, as well as the fringe, can be readily introduced between the clampingfianges formed by the ends of the sheet-metal Serial No. 209,866. (No model.)
strips,-which retain the shade and fringe by the spring action which they exert on the shade and fringe, respectively. The strips B B may also be made, instead of two pieces, in
one piece, as shows in Figs. 5 and 6, in which case the flanges form grooves with enlarged inner parts, exerting a spring action on the shade and fringe in the same manner as the flanges above described.
As shown in Figs. 7 and 8, the springflanges may be provided on the edge of the bar only.
Havingthus described myinvention,l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A bot-tom bar for shades, consisting of an interior core and exterior sheet-metal facing strips attached thereto on opposite sides there of, the facing-strips extending beyond the edge of the core, forming jaws, which constitute an automatic spring-clasp, the edges of the jaws being provided with inturned spring-flanges,
which yield for the admission of the shade or fringe and serve as stops, against which the folded or enlarged edge of the shade or fringe abuts for preventing the accidental withdrawal thereof, substantially as described.
2. A bottom bar for shades, comprising a core, exterior sheet-metal facing-strips, and automatic spring'clasps on opposite edges of the core, the jaws of each clasp being integral With the facingstrips and being provided with inturned spring-flanges, substantially as described.
In'testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN MOHLBERG.
