WAGON-TONGUE TIP.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 371,880, dated October l8r, 1887. Applica-tion tiled July 9, 1887. Serial No. 2l3,50. (No model.) Patented in Canada February 2Gi 1887. No. 526,075.

To all whom it may concern.-

Beit known that I, HENRY DUNNING, of Vellington, in the county of Prince Edward, in the Province of Ontario, in the Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wagon-Tongue Tips, (for which I have obtained a patent in Canada, No. 26,075, dated February 26, 1887;) and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, in which Y Figure l is a side elevation of my improved tip. Fig. 2 is aperspective view ot' the upper and lower parts ofthe tip, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the eyelet removed from its seat in the tip. i

My invention has for its object to construct a tip for the pole or tongue ofa wagon, sleigh, or other vehicle or implement drawn by a team of horses, whereby 'the neck-yoke ring of the harness will not become detached from the pole should the traces become unfastcned, and reins or straps will not be caught by the tip, owing to the tip affording no hold, and to allow of hitchingand unhitching with facility.

My invention consists in the combination of two straps, one secured to the upper side of the pole and having at the outer end an eye broken or open at thelower side, and the other strap secured to the lower side of the pole and havinga plain end forming one side of the opening into the eye, and a broken eyelet sleeved in the eye, so that when the opening into the eyelet is matched with the opening into the eye the neck-yoke ring can be placed in the eyelet and confined loosely therein by turning the eyelet eoncentrically to close the opening in the eye.

A is one strap of my improved pole-tip, and

is secured to the top side'ot1 the pole, the end of the pole abutting against a downward-pro jection, B, at the outer end of the strap, and said projection forms a portion of a broken eye, O, extending from the end of the strap.

D is the other strap of my improved poletip, and is secured tothe under side of the pole, stopping against an end projection, E, which matches with the downward projection B of the top strap, A, and forms one side of the opening Finto eye O.

G is an eyelet having a portion of the circumference removed to form a passage, IrI, into the eyelet, and the eyelet is admitted to the eye through the passage For strap E before 5 the strap D is secured in position on the pole, and the eye is prevented from escaping through the passage by the end of strap D when secured to the pole. The eyelet has a concentric movement in the eye, so that the opening F in the eye and the passage H in the eyelet can be brought together to admitthe neck-yoke ring into the eyelet. Then by turning'the eyelet to close over the opening F the neck-yoke ring will be prevented from escape. The eye C is provided with projections J, against which the flanges of the eyelet stop when the eyelet has been turned to close the opening into the eye.

I claim as myinvention In a pole-tip, the combination of strap A, having a broken eye, O, strap D, having an end, E, partly closing the break, and a broken eyelet, G, within the eye to close the break by a concentric movement, as set forth.
