Description

NoMqdeLy H LAMBERT, NIEIK YOKB.
No.. 542,200. Patented' July 2, 1895.l
. NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHRISTIAN HARRY LAMBERT, OF ANDERSON, INDIANA, ASSIGNOR 'IO THE BUOKEYE MANUFAOTURINGCOMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
lNECK-YOKE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 542,200, dated July 2, 1895.
Application led May 13, 1895. Serial No. 549,040. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, CHRISTIAN HARRY LAM- BERT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Anderson, in the county of Madison and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Neck-Yokes, of which the following is a specilication, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The object of this invention is to provide a simple, easily-made, t and strong swiveled coupling between a vehicle-pole and neckyoke which will permit all required freedom of motion.; and to these ends said invention consists in the neck-yoke coupling having the construction substantially as hereinafter specified.
In the annexed drawings, Figure lis a front View of the device; Fig. 2, a side view; Fig. 3, a vertical section on line mot' Fig. 1; Fig.
. 4, a detail perspective view of the two-part pivot-pin and the eyebolt, the parts being separated.
In the drawings, A designates the pole-center or eye, preferably made of leather in the usual way. To the upper edge of the same a round horizontal pin B is pivotally secured by a clip O, having a tubular portion that engages said pin, and ears c and c, depending from such portion andv engaging opposite sides of the eyepiece A and attached thereto by rivets or other suitable means. The pin B is divided longitudinally upon an axial line into halves,I and at its transverse center has a round opening h, one-half of which is formed in each part of the pin, and in which opening is placed a bolt D, having at its lower end a round head d, that iits a corresponding en.- largement formed at the lower end of the opening h, and which holds the bolt from be'- ing pulled out of the latter. The tubular portion of the clip is provided with a slot c in its upper side'for the passage and oscillation of the bolt. At its upper end the bolt is provided with an eye E, to which is pivoted a sleeve or ring F, adapted to be attached to the neck-yoke at its transverse center, as usual.
The eye E and sleeve F are connected together by a screw G, that passes through said E. The sleeve F, to facilitate its attachment and removal from the eye E, and also its placing upon and removal from the neckyoke, is divided on a longitudinal line in halves, each of which has one 'of the lugsf. The upper edge of one of the halves abuts against a shoulderfz upon the other and is overlapped by a langef3 on said other half.
The assemblage ofthe parts of my coupling will be readily understood. The halves of the pin B being placed properly together with the bolt D in place, the clip C is sprung over the bolt, the eye E of the latter being passed through the slot c of said clip. The clip is then riveted to the eye or center piece A, and iinally the sleeve F is connected to the eye E of the bolt.
It will be seen that my coupling contains a universal joint, a pivotal connection existing both between the pin B and eyepiece A, one between the bolt D and said pin B, and one between the bolt D and the sleeve F.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim is- The combination of a pole-engaging piece, a clip C securedto. the upper edge of said piece and slotted at c', a two-part pin B pivotally inclosed within said clip O, the two parts of said pin being correspondingly semicircularly notched at b, a headed-pin D pivotally resting in the opening -formed by the two notches b and provided with an eye E, and a yoke-engaging part provided with ears pivotally clamped to the said eye E, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
C. HARRY LAMBERT.
