Description

(No Model.)
A. L. HOTT.
TELEPHONE HOLDER.
No. 371,757. Patented Oct. 18, 1887.
WITNESSES INVENTOR:
BY mm. I
ATTORNEYS lUnrrn rams 1 tries,
AUGUSTUS L. HOTI, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
TELEPHONE-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 371,757, dated October 18, 1887.
Application filed June 29, 1887.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, AUGUSTUS L. Horcr, of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved TelephoneHoldcr, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which is a perspective View, showing the telephone in dotted lines.
The object of my invention is to provide a eovenient adjustable support for a receivingtelephone which will allow the attendant to receive a message and at the same time have the free use of both hands for writing or for holding a book or manuscript for the purpose of reading.
My invention consists in a pair of arms hinged to a back frame, connected by a rod, and a ratchet-bar pivoted to the back frame and arranged to engage the said rod and hold the arms at any desired elevation, the said arms being provided at their free ends with curved telephone-supports.
It also consists in the combination, with the arms, of slotted bars pivotally connected with the back frame and arranged to limit the swing of the arms.
The arms A A are connected with each other by the rod 13 near their mid-length and provided at their upper ends with curved fingers C C, for supporting the telephone-receiver, as indicated by the dotted lines. The
lower ends of the arms A A are pivoted between ears 'a,'projecting from the back frame, E. A ratchetbar, F, pivoted between cars a, projecting from the frame E, is arranged to engage the rod B and hold the arms A A at any desired inclination.
Slotted bars G G,
Serial No. 242,872. (No inodclJ pivotally connected with the frame E, receive the arms A A in their slots and limit their movement, the said bars G G being arranged to rest upon the rod 13.
By means of my improved telephone-holder the receiver may be held at any desired height to accommodate different users, and when it is not in use the arms A A may be folded closely against the frame E.
Although the slotted bars G G are useful in limiting the downward swing of the arms A A, they are not absolutely essential to my invention, as the ratchet-bar F will answer the purpose.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 7 1. In a telephone-holder, the combination of the back frame, E, the arms A A, pivot-ally connected with the frame and provided with the curved fingers C C, the rod B, connecting the arms A A, and the ratchet-bar F, pivotally connected with the back frame, E, substantially as described.
2. In a telephone-holder, the combination of the back frame, E, the arms A A, pivotally connected with the back frame and provided with the curved fingers C C, the rod B, connecting the arms A A, the ratchet-bar F, pivotally connected with the back frame, E, and the slotted bars G G, pivotally connected with the back frame and arranged to limit the motion of the arms A A, substantially as described.
