GLOVE -FASTENER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 369,848, dated September 13, 1887.

Application filed January 27, 1887. Serial No. 225,658.

.To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE GEARY, of Johnstown, in the county of Fulton and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Glove-Fastener, of which the following is a specification, reference being had 'to the annexed drawings, forming a part thereof, in which Figure 1 is a plan View of my improved glove-fastener, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section taken on line w x in Fig. 1.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding'parts in both views.

The object of my invention is to provide a simple and efficient fastener for gloves of all grades,.which may be readily applied to the glove, easily fastened and unt'astened, and which will not be liable to get out of repair.

My invention consists in a spring-socket adapted to be attached to one side of the slit of the glove, and in an arm adapted to be attached to the glove at the opposite side of the slit,and provided with aball fitted to the springsocket, all as hereinafter more fully described.

The socket A of the fastener consists of a concave metal plate having ears a,which are also concave and incline inward toward each other. ceiving the rivet b, by which it issecured to the glove B at oneside of thes lit c of the wrist of the glove. The rivet b is provided with a burr, d, for insuring a firm hold on the material of the glove. The socket A has in the side adjoining the slit 0 a wide notch, c, and in the opposite side a notch, f. To the oppo site side of the slit 0, and in line with the socket A, is secured an apertured arm, 0, by a rivet, b, which is provided with a burr, d.

Upon the arm 0 is formed a ball, 5 which is adapted to spring in between the ears (1 and enter the socket A. Beyond the ball 9 the arm 0 is curved backward or returned upon itself,and is provided at the end with a knob, h, for convenience in handling.

WVhen the socket A is secured by means of 45,

the rivet b in the manner described, a cavity, 2', is formed in the under surface of the ball 9 to receive the head of the rivet b,- but I do not limit myself to this construction,as other forms of fasteners may be employed for the socket A which will permit of dispensing with the cavity t.

The glove is fastened by springing the ball 9 down into the socket A between the cars a of the socket, and it is unfastened by removing the ball from the socket by means of the knob 71. at the end of the arm 0.

It is obvious that it is not essential that the extremity of the arm 0 should be returned upon itself or provided with a knob at the end thereof. Therefore I do not confine myself to this arrangement.

Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As an improved article of manufacture, a glove-fastener formed of the socket A, provided with inwardly-curved ears a and notches cf, and having an aperture for receiving the fastening-rivet, and the arm 0, provided with the ball 9, and having a curved endl terminating in a knob, h, substantially as described.
