UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE LOUISVIERHELLER, OF BELLEVILLE, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO LOUIS BARTEL, OF SAME PLACE.
SHAM PILLOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 368,864, dated Au ust 23. 1887- Application filed August 26, 1886. Serial No. 211,907.
To all whom it may concern..-
Be it known that 1, Louis VIERHELLER, a
4 citizen of the United States, residing at Belleville, in the county of St. Clair, State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sham Pillows, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying'drawings, in'which- Figure 1 represents a bottom plan view of the inner supporting portion of asham pillow embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a vertical section ,of the complete device in line at m, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 represents a view of a portion of Fig. 2, on an enlarged scale.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
My invention consists of a sham pillow which is light, strong, and inexpensive, and is adapted to be stulfed, so as to conceal its frame-work, and present in a measure the appearance of an ordinary pillow.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a sack, which is in the form of a sham pillow, and made of any suitable material.
B represents a convex frame, which is inclosed within the sack A, and formed of crosspieces 0, a central metallic disk, 0, and a border or rim, D, of wire. The inner ends of the cross-pieces are soldered to the central disk, 0, and the outer ends of said crosspieces are formed with eyes 0 which embrace the wire rim D, by which construction the frame is made strong, light, and inexpensive, and thecross pieces being prevented from shifting. A cover, E, of muslin or other suitable fabric, is placed over the frame and secured to the border or rim thereof.
Interposed between the sackA and cover E is a stuffing, F, of hair, husks, &c., thus imparting a full and rounded appearance to-the sham pillow, and imitating in a measure-an (N0 model.)
stuffing or upholstery F introduced into the sack between the same and cover E. The open end of the sack is then sewed up or otherwise closed, and the article is ready for use as a support for a pillow-sham, or may be covered or ornamented, as desired.
Owing to the convex form of the frame, the bottom of the same rests flat on the bed; but, if desired, two frames may be employed, the same being placed. back to back and united, forming a double convex pillow, as illustrated by the dotted lines, Fig. 2.
7 Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In asham pillow, a frame ofconvex form, consisting of an outer wire rim, D, cross-wires O, and a central disk, 0, said cross-wires having their inner ends connected with said disk, and their outer ends having eyes which embrace the outer rim, all substantially as described. v
2. A sham pillow consisting of an exterior sack, an interior cover, stuffing between said sack and cover, and a frame composed of the wire rim D, cross-Wires G, and a central disk, 0, said cross-wires having their outer ends secured to the rim D, and their inner ends connected with the disk 0, said parts being combined and operating substantially as described.
LOUIS VIERHELLER.
