UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM PALMER CLARKE, OF \VINNIPEG, MANITOBA, CANADA.
SCARF-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 368,380, dated August 16. 1887.
(No model.)
application ofmy improved scarf-holder. Fig.-
2 is a side elevation of ablank from which the holder is formed. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the holder detached from the scarf; and Fig. 4 shows the position of the holder relative to the collar and the collar-button.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple device for holding the scarf securely in the position of use.
Myinvention consists in ascarf-holder made of a plate of metal having hooks formed thereon for engaging the lower edge of the collar and provided with aloop for receiving the collar-button.
The plate A, from which the scarf-holder is made, is cut from a sheet of thin metal, all of the parts being formed integrally. The bar a, forming the body of the holder, is slightly curved and tapered from the center toward the ends, and at each end is provided with a downwardly projecting ear, I), and on the lower edge at the center is formed a loop, a, which converges towarditsouter end. \Vithin the loop is formed an apertured ear, (1. Opposite edges of the bar a are perforated to receive the thread by which the scarf and covering of the scarf-holder are secured in place.
The plate A is curved to conform it to the neck, and the loop 0 and the ears I) are turned upward parallel with the inner face of the plate, sufficient space being left between the ears b and the back of the bar a to receive the lower edge of the collar, and sufficient space being left between the loop 0 and the back of the bar to receive the head ofthe collar'button c, as shown in Fig. 4.
The bar a will be inclosed in the material of the tie extending around the neck of the wearer, and the scarf f will be attached to the front of the bar a by sewing.
For turn-down collars the arms of the holder maybe made shorter, and the hooks at the ends may be dispensed with.
It is obvious that the loop 0 and hooks b may be attached to the body of the holder by rivets. Therefore I do not limit my improvement to a holder having theloop, hooks, and body formed integrally in one piece.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A scarf holder consisting of a curved plate having a central loop, 0. and end ears, b, the said loop and cars being bent up approximately parallel with the inner surface of the said plate, substantially as described.
2. The combination, with the scarf f, of the scarf-holder, formed of the curved plate A, having the loop a, and ears I), bent upward parallel with the concave surface, substantially as shown and described.
