Description

' (No Model.)
J. E. ORBOLD.
COMPOUND TOOL FOR PAINTERS AND GLAZIERS. I
No. 367,228. Patentd July 26,1887.
' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH EUeENE ORBOLD, OF MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE.
COMPOUND TOOL FOR. PAlNTER S ORJGLAZIERS.
, SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 367,228, dated-July 26, 1887.
I Application filed March 14,1887. Serial No. 230,927. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Beitknown that I, JOSEPH EUGENE ORBOLI), a citizen of the United States, residing at Memphis, in the county of Shelby and State of Ten-v nessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Compound Tools for Painters or Glaziers; and I do declare the following to bea full, clear, and exact description of theinvention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. I
The special object of the invention is to make a compound tool consisting of a putty-knife,
"a ladder-hook, and general-purpose knife,
three things which are constantly needed by painters and glaziers. It will be a great advantage to have the three pieces so connected together that they may be kept in the pocket,
and neither one will then ever be out of place when wanted.
Figure l of the drawings is a perspective of the tool employed as a'ladder-hook. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the knives partly folded, and Fig. 3 a median section through the plane of the hook.
In the drawings, A represents the ladderhook, B the putty-knife, and Qthe generalpurpose knife, all pivoted together, as shown in the drawings. The hook A has its shank a longitudinally grooved at a, so that the knives may be rear pivoted and fold therein, as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings. It may thus be conveniently stowed'away in the pocket, and thus be always ready for use.
The putty-knife B is slotted at l) to form a hook to fasten over the rung of a ladder with hook A, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings, and carry a bucket, D, on the hook 11. Thus the painter may always have his paint within a short distance, and so placed that it will not be liable to be knocked over.
Having thus described all that is necessary to a full understanding of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to protect by Let ters Patent, is-
A compound tool for painters or glaziers. consisting of a ladder-hook, putty-knife, and general-purpose knife, the knives being pivoted to fold within a groove of the hook, as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH EUGENE ORBOLD.
