The foregoing and other objects-ina;lv be' attained by means of the constructionl illustrated in the accompanying drawings, iny
Figure 1 is a frbnt-plan elevation of the painters guard. made vin accordance with.
this invention, Fig. 2 is a similar view in which the cover for the lower edge is removed, Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the linel S-B'of Fig. 1 looking in the direction indicated by the arrow, Fig. 4 is a, sec-' tional view taken on the line fli of Fig. .1,
- and-Fig. 5 is a detail sectional viewvof the -andthe front side is provided with grooves at the side, said grooves running from the' ^uter edges 4 of .the blade en d,in an inciiied direction Yand terminatlng at the end of a longitudinalgroove 5. The groove 5 ``is provided with an inclined wall 6, and an' inwardly and downwardly inclined bottom 7 Spec-iicatmn of Letters Patent.

to prevent the paint from running overv the outer edge of the groove.- The rear side 2 at the' workingl edge is provided with a bevel and a sharp termina-l edge 9 which is straight from end to end of the tool and adapted to lie close to the edge ofthe surface to be protected.
A handle 10, preferablyround in cross section isV provided with a longitudinal 'groove inwliich theblade l is fitted. andrivets 11 extend through :the handle l() and. through the blade 'for holding the handle in place. 'Ihe 4working edge of the tool is provided with a protector. '12 which .may be formed either vof wood ormetal and providedl with' -a groovewhich would inclose the lower edge of the blade'. and thus prevent the same from being bent or injured when not required for use.
From4 the foregoing it .will be obvious that a p ainters guard made in accordance with this invention can be producedat low cost,is exceedingfv1 simple inconstruction. can be used to advantage b v amateur paint-'fl Patented 00ct.. 26., MM5. f' i Application i'iled August 12., 1.914.1 Serial No. 856,469.
