FOLDING-POCKET ARTICLE.
i Application filed July 30, 1917. Serial No. 183,514.
To all whom t may concern.' n
Be it known that I, GEORGE KUPEC," a subject of the Kingkof Hungary, residing at New Salem, in the ,county of Fayette and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Pocket Articles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in folding pocket articles.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a foldable deviceadapted to be readily carried in the pocket for convenience in eating at such places for instance as 1n camp, a plurality of implements being operably carried by a single handle.
A further object of the device is the provision of a folding pocket article including separably operable knife, fork and spoon members, the fork and spoon being protect- .ingly closed when the knife is in position for use while the knife is inclosed when either the fork or the spoon is in its operative position.
A still further object ofthe invention is the provision of a multiple tool arranged for protecting the separate tools thereof when not desired for use, the structure being` easy and inexpensive to manufacture and possessing great strength and utility.
In the drawing forming a part of this application and in which like designating characters refer to corresponding parts through` out the several views, y
Figure l is a side elevation of the device in one position with the fork unfolded and the spoon illustrated by dotted linesinits open arrangement.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof.
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1 with the device folded in its opposite arrangement and with the knifeexposed for use.
Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 1 with the handle partially opened and the curved blade extended.
Fig. 5 is a perspective View of one end of one of the handle sections, and
Fig. 6 is a similar view of the corresponding end of the other sectionof the handle.
Referring more in detail to thedrawing a handle 10 is provided formed in two sections 11 and 12 shiftably connected together by j two end links 13 whereby the sections 11 and 12 may be arranged with either of their sides 'speciaeation of Letters Patent.
y the blade 14 is Patented Oct. 29, 1918.
in contact with each other as illustrated in Flgs. 1 and 3 of the drawing.
A knife blade 14 is carried by one of the links 13 the` said blade being inclosed be tween the sections 11 and 12" lying within the 'adjacent slots 15 of the said sections when' the latter are folded with their unbroken sides 16 in contact with each other as shown in Fig. 1. When the sections l1 and 12 are` swung in contact with each other in .their opposite directions and with their incised edges 17 in contact with each other, positioned for use projecting from one end of the handle 10 as shown in Fig. 3. The sides 16 of the sections 11 and 12 are substantially unbroken after the manner of the back of the knife handle while tools with which the handle 10 is provided with the exception of the blade 14 are arranged within the opposite sides of the sections and may be termed the front side of the Vhandle section, being the side adapted for the reception of such tools when in their folded inoperative relations.
The section 12 is arranged with swinging T-shaped latches 18 at its free end adapted for seating reception within sockets 19 in the adjacent end of the handle section 11 and whereby the sections 11 and 12 may be secured together when all of the tools are in their folded inoperative j positions or whenever one of the same is unfolded for use. The section 11 is provided with a fork 20hinged thereto at its connected end and adapted for positioning with the cutaway portion 2l of the section 11 when folded while the section 12 is provided with a spoon 22 similarly "hinged thereto at its pivoted endV and adapted to lie within an excision 23 of the section 12. Any other desired tools may be pivoted within the said slots 15 of `the sections 11 and 12 such as a curved blade 25, a file 26 and a screw driver 27 it being understood that each of the same are pivoted in the handle section 11 for readily opening the blade niust necessarily be exposed While the arrangement of the handle sections with the blade 14: inclosed, leaves the kni'le and fork at opposite sides of the handle ready to be opened Whenever found desirable.
A serviceable combination tool is arranged in which all ot' the implements desired for eating purposes are compactly combined, the arrangen'ient presenting a strong and serviceable structure pleasing in appearance and easily and quickly operated.
What I claiin asneW is In a tool of the class described, a handle formed of two longitudinal sections pivotally connected together at one end ot' the handle, one of said sections being inwardly notched at its free end to provide sockets,
vswinging latches pivotally attached to the free end of the other section and having rigid transverse heads adapted to engage in GEORGE Kerne Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,
