H. POETTIGH. COMBINED KNIFE, FORK, AND SPOON. APPLICATION FILED JAN.10, 1911.

W l abtomeq UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY POETTICH, OF NEW BEDFOR-D, MASSACHUSETTS.
COMBINED KNIFE, FORK, AND SPOON.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY POETTICH, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at New Bedford, in the county of Bristol and State of h ilassachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Knives, Forks, and Spoons; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to the combination of a knife, fork and spoon, and is especially adapted for the use of campers or tourists.
The object of the invention is to hingedly connect a knife, fork and spoon to a handle, into which they may be folded to occupy a small compass.
Vith the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain combinations and arrangements of the parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and the novel features thereof particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification is illustrated the preferred embodiment of my invention, and the corresponding parts are designated by like characters of reference.
Figure 1 is a top elevation of the device closed; Fig. 2 is a side elevation showing implements extended and parts broken away, and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, 1 represents a knife, 2 a fork and 3 a spoon, each of which has short shanks t. The knife, fork and spoon are each provided with thumb-nail receiving recesses 5 for the purpose of readily opening them from the handle. The shanks of the knife and fork are preferably pivotally connected, as at 6, to the same end of a handle, between the sides 7 thereof, and the spoon between the sides at the opposite end of the handle, by means of a pivot 8. One side 7 of the handle has an enlarged central oval-shaped portion 9, for substan- Specification of Letters Patent.

tially inclosing the knife, fork and spoon when in closed position.
Between the sides 7, and at their back edges near the ends of the handle, are springs 10, which are adapted to engage the shanks at and to hold the knife, fork and spoon, either individually or all at the same time, in a suitable adjusted position.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings, it is thought the construction and advantages of my improved combination knife, fork and spoon will be readily understood by those familiar with the art, without further explanation.
It is to be understood that slight changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle of or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a combined knife, fork and spoon, a body portion comprising a handle having one side straight and the other side bulged intermediate its ends approximately at the center thereof, a knife blade pivoted within one end of the handle, a fork pivoted within the same end, said knife blade adapted to fold within the handle parallel with the straight side thereof, said fork adapted to be folded to lie parallel with the bulged portion, a spoon pivoted within the other end of the handle and adapted to be folded to lie parallel with the bulged portion above the fork in its folded position and the pivot plane of the spoon arranged intermediate the pivot planes of knife blade and fork at the opposite end of the handle so that the several parts may be readily folded into the handle.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HEVRY POETTICH. lVitnesses:
JOSEPH T. KENNEY, LAURENCE SKELLY.
