UNIT D STATES PATENT rarest GEORGE HUNT, OF ELLENVILLE, NEW YORK.
POCKET-KNiFE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 303,855, dated August 19, 1884.
Application filed November 3, 1883. (Model) To (all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, Gnonen HUNT, of Ellenville, town of \Vawarsing, county of Ulster, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Combined Blade-Opener and Nail- Spur Attachment to Pocket-Knives; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which itappcrtains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to pocket-knives; and it has for its object to combine with the blade or blades of an ordinary knife a spur or projection which serves as a finger-nail cleaner and to provide the knife-blade with a suitably-arranged perforation or opening, whereby the said blade may be readily opened by means of a pin or like object, thus obviating the inconvenience and annoyance experienced with the ordinary blade when thespring is rather stifi' or has become rusted.
\Vith these ends in view the invention consists in the improved construction of knife blade hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawing the single figure represents a side elevation of an ordinary knife, the blades of which are constructed in accordance with my invention.
A represents a knife-handle of the ordinary construction, having blades D attached thereto in a suitable or we1l-known manner. These blades D are provided upon their u ppcr edges with upwardly-extending spurs or projections B O, which are designed to subscrvc the double purpose of a finger-nail cleaner and convenient means by which to open the blade. Upon the blades D are provided holes or openings at at any desired point, though. preferably near the upper edge and near the end of the blade. By providingaknife-blade with these perforations it will be seen that when the blade becomes rusted or the easy opening otherwise impaired a pin orlike object may be passed through said perforation and the blade easily opened.
I claim A knife having one or more of its blades formed with an obliqueiy-proiccting spur, said blade or blades being also provided with a perforation near the upper edgcihcreof, substan tially as set forth.
