DOORGHEGIK. No. 367,060. Patented July 26, 1887.
WITNESSES INVEWTOR m-r z z m M I /fzl J 7 Q Attorney 7 UNITED STATES ATENT OFFICE,
HARRY F. PRICE, OF FORT YVORTH, TEXAS.
DOOR=CHECK.
v SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 367,060, dated July 26, 1887.
I I Application filed August '7, 1856. Serial No. 210.343. (No model) To all whom; it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HARRY F. Paton, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fort WVorth, in the county of Tarrant and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door Stops and Catches; and I do hereby declarethat the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
The drawing represents a perspective view of my improvement.
The present invention has for its object to provide a simple, effective, and practicallyoperating stop and catch for hinged or swinging doors; and it consists in the details of construction, as-will be hereinafter described'and claimed.
In the accompanying d rawing I have shown the door stop and catch composed of a single piece of spring metal, consisting of aflat strip of sheet metal, one end thereof bcingbent upwardly, as shown at A, and thence downwardly, as shown ate, and outwardly to form a securing-flange,ib, which is prpvided with holes for securing it to the floor by screws or other similar fastenings. Thebasc B is also formed with holes for fastening it to the floor by similar means. The opposite end of the metal strip or base Bis bent inwardly and upwardlyat an angle to form a catch, 0, and the extremity of said catch has a depending flange, 0, around which is placed a rubber band, (if, a similar band, 6, being placed around the stop A. These bands are designed to form elastic cushions to prevent marring the door when brought against the catch and stop, and when the door is open and swung against the catch 0 and rides over it said catch is depressed until the door passes beyond the inner extremity thereof, when by the elasticity of the metal the catch will resume its normal position and hold thedoor open, the stop Apreventing the door from being swung too far back. 7
By the above-described construction a very simple and effective device is provided that can be manufactured at a very small cost to bring it within the reach of all, the bend a giving the required elasticity to the stop A.
I am aware that a spring-frame for holding doors has been formed ofa single piece of metal provided at one end with prongs, from the upper ends of which a part is inclined downwardly, then bent over at its lower end and inclined upwardly, and do not seek to cover such construction, but limitmyself to my construction, attaching special importance to the peculiar form of the stop end of the device, the downward] y and outwardly bent part-forming not only a meansfor securing the part to the floor, but serving also as a brace to strengthen the stop A and resist the strain thereon.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The improved door-stop and catch described, formed of a single strip of sheet metal, comprising a base, B, provided with a hole or holes for fastening the same in position, and one end bent inwardly and upwardly at an angle to said base to form aspring-catch, and the other end bent upwardly at substantially a right angle to the base and thence downwardly and outwardly to form a fastening-flange, b, in line with the base, and a brace to strengthen the stop A, said flange being provided with holes and the rubber buffers d e, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
HARRY F. PRICE.
