Definitions
- An object of the invention is a file folder comprising several flaps which are folded over each other and each having, on one of its faces, tiered pockets designed to hold documents.
- this file folder may be manufactured in the most diverse materials ranging from natural or artificial leather, for office utilizations, to simple strong paper of kraft or similar type, when the file is intended for records.
- Another object of the invention is a process for the manufacture of file folders of this kind in paper, cardboard or flexible plastic and more particularly file folders in kraft paper for records, the aim of this process being to permit the manufacture of such file folders at extremely low cost.
- a file folder is manufactured having any number of fiaps, with three pockets for each flap, simply by using two sheets of kraft paper, or other similar material, which are folded over such that the lower pocket is formed by folding the outer sheet, while the other two pockets are formed by folding the inner sheet previously connected to the outer sheet by a stitching or a line ofglue,
- the inner and outer sheets consist of endless strips, permitting the continuous manufacture of folders by simple cutting.
- FIGS. I to 4 are perspective views of the first four phases of the continuous strip manufacture.
- FIGS. 5 to 7 show the cutting, tucking and folding operations.
- FIG. 8 is a half-open perspective view of the completed file folder.
- FIG. I shows sections of these two strips, one of which has been shaded for the sake of clarity.
- the strips 1 and 2 are unrolled over each other with different offsets on both sides.
- the outer strip 1 is folded over at 3 to reinforce its free edge and the inner strip is stitched thereover longitudinally at 4 then (FIG, 3) folded longitudinally at S, and strip I at 6, the interval between the two fold lines 5 and 6 being substantially equal to that between the stitching 4 and the fold 5.
- the two parts, 9 and 10, thus folded of the two strips are folded over each other, as shown in FIG. 4, and the assembly thus formed is cut at 7 (FIG. 5) such that the section obtained has a length corresponding to as many times the width of a flap of the file as the number of flaps desired.
- the cutting lines are reinforced by means of a cloth or paper ribbon (FIG. 6), it being possible to reinforce the folds I I between the flaps with similar strips, although this is not indispensable.
