1 Claim, 2 Drawing Figures CUTTER-GRINDING MACHINES The present invention relates to cutter-grinding machines, and more particularly to devices for dressing abrasive wheels, which are mounted on such machines.
Known in the art are devices adapted for dressing abrasive wheels and mounted on cutter-grinding machines, which comprise a member carrying an abrasive wheel, said member being mounted on the supporting member of the machine with a possibility of moving towards an article being worked, and a holder on which a dressing tool is fixed. The holder is mounted so as to be movable along a guide of the supporting member inclined at 45 to the horizon, in such a manner, that the dressing tool, as the grinding wheel becomes worn out, performs a followup motion in a direction perpendicular to the travel of the abrasive wheel towards the article being worked (cf., e.g., German Pat. No. 885,666).
In the device described hereinabove the holder of the dressing tool is connected with the carrying member by means of a lever with a roller accommodated in a groove made in a projection of the carrying member.
Such an embodiment of the device, according to which the working zone which lies in front of the abrasive wheel and extends in the direction of its travel is limited by the guide of the supporting member, does not allow the use of large diameter grinding wheels, or work large-sized articles.
Attempts to increase the working zone of the device by reducing the length of the inclined guide do no help in attaining the desired result, since this leads to incomplete utilization of the grinding wheel diameter, and when the above-mentioned conditions are provided, that is, the inclined guide is reduced, the dimensions of articles that can be worked prove to be considerably smaller.
The object of the present invention is to provide a device for dressing grinding wheels, wherein the connection between the holder of the dressing tool and the carrying member would be effected in such a manner, that the guide inclined at 45 to the horizon should not restrict the working zone of the device, so that it would be possible to use large diameter grinding wheels and work large-sized articles.
Said and other objects are accomplished due to the fact, that in a device for dressing the grinding wheel in the course of its rotation, comprising a member carrying said wheel and a holder with a dressing tool performing a followup motion, as the grinding wheel becomes worn out, along a guide of the supporting member, inclined at 45 to the horizon, in a direction perpendicular to the direction of travel of the abrasion wheel towards the article being worked, according to the invention, the member carrying the grinding wheel is provided with vertical guides arranged at 45 to the inclined guide of the supporting member, said vertical guides serving for travel of the holder carrying the dressing tool, said holder moving the member carrying the abrasive wheel towards the article being worked, during interaction with the inclined guide of the supporting member.
The essence of the present invention resides in the following.
Due to the provision in the carrying member of vertical guides arranged at 45 to the guide of the supporting member, this last-mentioned guide being disposed at 45 to the horizon and to the corresponding guide in the holder, the latter proves to be associated with the carrying member with a possibility of a vertical movement.
As the abrasive wheel fixed on the carrying member wears out, the holder of the dressing tool will descend, moving along the inclined guide, and urge the member carrying the abrasive wheel towards the article being worked.
The working zone of the device, lying in front of the abrasive wheel and extending in the direction of travel of the carrying member is thus not restricted in any way.
This allows the working of large-sized articles and maximum utilization of large diameter abrasive wheels.
For a better understanding of the present invention given hereinbelow is a detailed description of a particular embodiment of the device according to the invention with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
FIG. 1 shows the device for dressing abrasive wheels, as
seen from the side of the abrasive wheel (side view);
FIG. 2 shows the same in section taken along the line ll-ll in FIG. I.
The device shown in the drawings comprises a supporting member 1 (FIGS. 1 and 2) with a flat guideway 2 inclined at an angle 45 to the horizon, a member 4 carrying an abrasive wheel 3, said member being slidable along the supporting member I, and a holder 5 on which a dressing tool 6 is fixed.
The holder Sis mounted on the supporting member I with a possibility of travelling along its inclined flat guideway 2 on rollers 7, and is associated with the carrying member 4 by means of a guiding projection 8 of a dovetail shape received in a congruent recess 9 in the body of the holder 5.
The guiding projection 8 is disposed at an angle B: 45 to the flat guideway 2, that is, perpendicular to the horizon.
The operation of the herein-proposed device will now be considered by way of example for the case of working a disk saw with an abrasive wheel.
A disk saw 10 (FIGS. 1 and 2) is positioned into a clamping means lll, the abrasive wheel 3 is brought to the teeth 12 of the saw, and their grinding is effected.
In the course of operation the abrasive wheel 3 gradually wears out. As this takes place, the dressing tool 6 with the holder 5 is fed to the abrasive wheel 3. The holder 5 slides down the inclined flat guideway 2 on the rollers 7. While thus descending, the holder 5 through the intermediary of the vertical guiding projection 8 and recess 9 interacts with the member 4 carrying the abrasive wheel 3, causing said member 4 to move towards the disk saw 10 being worked.
The value a of feeding the abrasive wheel is equal to the thickness b of the layer of abrasive material removed by the dressing tool 6.
As can be seen from the drawing, the working zone of the present device is not restricted in any way, so that large-sized articles of any shape can be disposed within it for working.
What is claimed is:
l. A device for dressing an abrasive wheel in the course of its rotation when working an article within a predetermined working zone, comprising: a supporting member; inclined guides provided on said supporting member at an angle of 45to the horizontal; a member carrying said abrasive wheel and mounted on said supporting member between said inclined guides and said article being worked and adapted for movement towards the latter; vertical guides provided on said abrasive wheel-carrying member on the side opposite to said article being worked; a holder provided on said supporting member adapted to be slid along said inclined and vertical guides; a dressing tool secured on said holder, and adapted to effect a follow-up motion in a direction perpendicular to that of said abrasive wheel; said supporting member and holder being arranged so as to encompass said abrasive wheel-carrying member on the side opposite to the location of said article being worked thereby leaving the working zone unrestricted.

Claims (1)

1. A device for dressing an abrasive wheel in the course of its rotation when working an article within a predetermined working zone, comprising: a supporting member; inclined guides provided on said supporting member at an angle of 45*to the horizontal; a member carrying said abrasive wheel and mounted on said supporting member between said inclined guides and said article being worked and adapted for movement towards the latter; vertical guides provided on said abrasive wheel-carrying member on the side opposite to said article being worked; a holder provided on said supporting member adapted to be slid along said incLined and vertical guides; a dressing tool secured on said holder, and adapted to effect a follow-up motion in a direction perpendicular to that of said abrasive wheel; said supporting member and holder being arranged so as to encompass said abrasive wheel-carrying member on the side opposite to the location of said article being worked thereby leaving the working zone unrestricted.
