Definitions

  • a device for the axial adjustment of rolls, particularly grooved rolls, which are displaceably supported with the aid ofinserts in the frame ofa rolling stand comprises, for axial adjustment of one roll together with its inserts, one or two substantially portal-shaped guide members arranged in a slot of a roll-supporting standard, said guide members having inclined slide surfaces engaging corresponding slide surfaces on a shoulder of the insert extending with play into said slot and forcelocked to a threaded spindle.
  • the present invention relates to a device for the axial adjustment of rolls, particularly grooved rolls, which are displaceably arranged with their inserts in the frame of a rolling stand.
  • the problem with continuous casting plants and in particu lar with multibar continuous castings plants is to arrange the rolling stands used for the further shaping of the castings subsequent to the casting process so as to save most space, in order to achieve the closest possible side by side and in tandem arrangement of the rolling stands.
  • Another aim is to design said rolling stands as light and simple as possible.
  • the rolling stands shall be quickly and easily exchangeable as well as interchangeable, if desired.
  • the adjustment of the rolls i.e. the adjustment of the sizing groove is effected with these breakdown trains following a continuous casting plant not on the spot but preferably in a roll workshop. Only aligning or adjusting work shall be done once the complete rolling stand has been installed and is ready for operation.
  • the axial adjustment of the rolls is of particular importance for a careful sizing groove adjustment.
  • this problem is solved by providing that at least one roll together with its inserts is adjustable in axial direction of the roll by one or two guide members arranged in slots of the roll standards and displaceable perpendicular to the roll axis, said guide members having wedgelike slide surfaces which coact with corresponding slide surfaces on the shoulder of one of the inserts.
  • each guide member is designed like an inverse U" and moved by a hollow threaded spindle, said threaded spindle being forcelocked to the shoulder of the insert by a bolt and a fixing plate.
  • the device for axial adjustment may be symmetrically arranged within the slots of the roll standard on either side of an insert.
  • FIG. I shows a partly sectional front view of a rolling stand
  • FIG. 2 a vertical sectional view along the line II-Il of FIG.
  • FIG. 3 a horizontal sectional view along the line Ill-Ill of FIG. 2, and
  • FIG. 4 is a left-hand elevational view of the rolling stand shown in FIG. 1 and illustrates another embodiment of the invention.
  • FIG. 1 shows the arrangement of two grooved rolls ll, 2 together with their inserts 3, 4, 5, 6 in the standards 7, 8 of the rolling stand having a detachable cap connection 9 and a rigid cross connection 10.
  • the roll standards 7, 8 have slots Ill, 12, wherein the inserts 3, 4 are guided without play and the inserts 5, and 6 with clearances designated by a and b in FIG. 3.
  • a hollow threaded spindle 15 moves the insert of the roll 2 horizontally by means of a guide member 13 engaging with the shoulder 14 of the insert 5, without a vertical change of its position.
  • FIGS. 2 and 3 illustrate the function of the device in more detail.
  • the threaded spindle 15 is engaged by a nut 16, which is inserted in the guide member 13.
  • the threaded spindle 15 is forcelocked to a fixing plate 17 as well as to the shoulder M of the insert 5 by a bolt 26 and the nut 29.
  • Numerals 27 and 28 designate bearing bushings of the threaded spindle ll5.
  • Bolts l8, I9, 20, 21 connect the fixing plate 17 in such a way with the shoulder 14 that the fixing plate 17 is displaceable along the slots 22, 23, 24, 25 but not revolvable.
  • the guide member 13 designated like an inverse U" is guided in the recesses 30, 31 of the roll standard 7 and vertically displaceable therein.
  • the guide member 13 has two parallel slide surfaces 32, 33 inclined at a small acute angle to the vertical plane through the roll standard 7.
  • the shoulder 14 has corresponding slide surfaces.
  • the roll 2 can thus be displaced in axial direction by the dimension b, and on turning it to the. left by the dimension a; the aggregate dimension 1; and 1; amount in practice to several millimeters, sufficient for compensating for any inaccuracies due to assembly and manufacturing work.
  • the adjustment device is manually operated and is preferably installed on either side of the insert 5 and within the roll standard 7.
  • the opposite insert 6 is guided in the roll standard it in slot 12 with the same play a plus b as the insert 5.
  • Means for axially adjusting a roll in a rolling stand comprising a roll standard having a slot, insert means supporting said roll in said standard and having a shoulder with at least one inclined slide surface, a guide member positioned in the slot of the roll standard and having at least one inclined slide surface, and adjusting means connecting the guide member with the shoulder on the insert, the slide surface of the shoulder and the slide surface of the guide adapted to be slidingly engaged whereby a vertical displacement of the guide member by means of the adjusting means provides a corresponding horizontal displacement of the insert means and an axial displacement of the roll.
  • the adjusting means comprises a hollow threaded spindle, a bolt and a fixing plate, the bolt being positioned in the spindle and the fixing plate positioned on the shoulder of the insert and adapted to forcelock the spindle to the shoulder.
  • Means for axially adjusting a roll in a rolling stand comprising a roll standard having a slot, insert mans supporting said roll in said standard and having a shoulder with at least one inclined slide surface, a guide member positioned in the slot of the roll standard, the guide member being substantially inverse U-shaped and having at least one inclined slide surface, and adjusting means connecting the guidemember with the shoulder on the insert, the slide surface of the shoulder and the slide surface of the guide member adapted to be slidingly engaged whereby a vertical displacement of the guide member by means of the adjusting means provides a corresponding horizontal displacement of the insert means and an axial displacement of the roll.
  • Means as set forth in claim 3 wherein the adjusting means comprises a hollow threaded spindle, a bolt and a fixing plate, the bolt positioned in the spindle and the fixing plate positioned on the shoulder of the insert and adapted to forcelock the spindle to the shoulder.
  • Means for axially adjusting a roll in a rolling stand com prising a roll standard having a slot, insert means supporting said roll in said standard, the insert means having two shoulders, one on either side thereof, and each of the shoulders having at least one inclined slide surface, two guide members symmetrically arranged within the slot of the roll standard on either side of the insert means, each of the guide members having at least one inclined slide surface, two adjusting means, each of the adjusting means connecting one of the guide members to one of the shoulders on the insert means, the slide surfaces of the shoulders and the corresponding slide surfaces of the of the guide members adapted to be slidingly engaged whereby a vertical displacement of the guide members by the adjusting means provides a corresponding horizontal displacement of the insert means and an axial displacement of the roll.
  • each adjusting means comprises a hollow threaded spindle, a bolt and a fixing plate, the bolt positioned in the spindle and the fixing plate positioned on the shoulder of the corresponding insert means and adapted to forcelock the spindle to said shoulder.
  • each of the guide members and each of the shoulders of the insert means have two correspondingly engaging slide surfaces.
