ADJUSTABLE BLOTTER. No. 362,361. Patented May 3,1887.

ENOOH COVERT, OF FARMER VILLAGE, NEW YORK.
ADJUSTABLE BLOTTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent 110362 61, dated May 3, 1887. Application filed October 2l, 1886. Serial No. 216,861. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ENOOH OovERT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Farmer Village, in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Blotters, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in adjustable blotters for blank-books.
The invention is designed to provide a simple and inexpensive device for detachably securing a sheet of blotting-paper to a book in such a manner that the same may be .readily adjusted to any desired position on the page being written upon, so that it may be used as a hand'rest and blotter, as will be more fully hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
The invention consists, essentially, of a sheet or pad of blotting-paper having secured upon one of its edges one ormore loops or eyes, through which is passed a string or cord provided with pins or hooks to attach it to a book, as will be hereinafter described.
My invention is fully illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a blank-book with my invention applied; Fig. 2, a view of the device detached, and Fig. 3 detail view of the attaching pins or hooks.
Referring to the annexed drawings by letter, Adesignates a book having myinvention applied. v
B designates a string, preferably elastic, which is provided at its ends with sharpened hooks or -pins 0 to attach it to the book. These hooks or pins are usually secured at the upper and lower ends of the book, and
the string is placed inside between the leaves.
The letter D represents the blotter sheet or pad, which is provided with loops E at one of its edges.
The string B, before being attached to the book, is passed through-the loops on the blot ter, thereby securing it to the book. By this construction the blotting-pad may be adjusted to any position upon the. page of the book, to serve either asa blotter for the surplus ink or as a handrest. The string may be placed between any of the leaves by simply detaching one end from the book. v
The purpose of using an elastic string-is that it will always remain ina taut condition and not sag, as an ordinary string would be liable to do. .e
I am aware that it is-not new to attach a blotting-pad to a rectangular bail which is pivoted to the inner side of the cover of abook;
neither is it new to combine with an elastic cord having attaching devices on its ends a sliding plate for the purpose of indicating lines while reading. I therefore broadly disclaim such devices.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and'dcsire to secure by Letters Patent,
The combination, with a pad of blotting-pa ENOGH COVERT. Witnesses:
O. G. WHEELER,
. E. 0. GRANT.
