INVENTOR ATTORNEYS WITNES N. PETERS. nwwuamnww. Wadinglm u c details and combinations of the'same, as will UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIC MILTON D. GOOD, OF HOPE, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND VILLIAM E. GLEISSNER, OF ABILENE, KANSAS.
FLOOR-CLAMP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 361,060, dated April '12, 1887.
' Application filed December 1, 1886. Serial lid 220,377. (No model.)
Hope,in the county of Dickinson and the State of Kansas, have invented a new and Improved Floor-Clamp, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved clamp for pressing floorboards in place.
The invention consists of various parts and be fully described hereinafter, and then pointed out in the claims. 5
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a front elevation of my improvement, showing the gripping-levers open. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the'same; and Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the same, showing the gripping-levers closed. y I On the rod or bar A, of suitable-size and form, are pivoted, on opposite sides and near the lower end of the said bar, the grippinglevers B, having the downwardly-extending hook ends G and the upwardly-extending bars D, which fit into apertures formed in the plate E, secured on the lower end of a sleeve, E, adapted to slide on the rod or bar A. The upper ends of the bars D are provided with lugs to prevent the plate E from being removed.
In lugs A formed on the lower end of the rod A is pivoted, at right angles to the gripping-levers B, the arm F, carrying the pressing-plate G, provided in its middle with an inward bend, G, and with transverse grooves G which run from the outer ends to the said bend and conform to the shape of the tongues of the floor-boards.
The operation is as follows: The hooks O of the levers B are opened by sliding the sleeve E, carrying the plate E,upward on the bar or rod A, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and the tool is then placed imposition on thefloor, so that the pressing-plate G rests 'on the edge of the floor-board, with the tongue of the latter placed in the grooves G and the bend G resting on the joist. The sleeve E, carrying the plate E, is then quickly moved downward to cause the hooks G of the gripping-levers B to close and impinge on thejoist of the floor. The rod or bar A is then swung toward the floor-boards in the direction of the arrow a, the fulcrum being the hooks O on the joist, so that the floor board is pressed into place.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a floor-clamp, the combination, with a rod or bar, of gripping-levers pivoted on the same, a sleeve carrying a plate engaging the gripping-levers and sliding on the rod or bar and opening and closing the said grippinglevers, and a board-pressing plate pivoted on the lower end of the said rod or bar, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a floor-clamp, the combination, with a rod or bar, of gripping-levers pivoted on the same, a sleeve carrying a plate engaging the gripping-levers and sliding on the rod or bar for opening and closing the said gripping levers, an arm pivoted to the lower end of the said rod or bar, and a pressing-plate formed on the said arm-and having the bend G and the groove G, substantially as shown and described.
