DEVICE FOR OPERATING THE BOTTOM DOORS 0F STEEP-TANKS, tlc.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 390,533, dated October 2, 1888.
Application filed June 8, 1888. Serial No. 276,451. (No model.)
T0 @ZZ whom it may concern.:
Be it known that L WENZEL Tournee, a citizen of the United States, residing at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee, and in the State of Visconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Operating the Bottoni Doors of Steep-Tanks, 86e.; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to devices for operating the bottom doors of steep-tanks, 82o., and will be fully described hereinafter.
In the drawings, Figure l is a section of a tank with the door closed by my device. Fig. 2 is a like section with the door partly closed and locked in this position. Fig. 3 shows the door entirely open, and Fig. I is a section.
A is the tank, to which, on its under side, are secured two bars, B, having ears a on one end, to which the door (l is hinged, and on their front ends, which project downward at right angles, is secured a strong plate, b, in which is a slot, b. A curved arm, I), projects from the bottom of door O, and to this is pivoted one end of an operatingbar, E, the other end of which is formed with a handle, F, that is preferaloly slightly downturned, and a short distance from its outer end bar, E, is formed with two shoulders, c and d. The shoulder c is calnshaped and rather more abrupt in front than in its rear, while the shoulder d is formed by notching the bar from the front.
G is a cam-lever having a projection, f, for engagement with the shoulder c of operatingbar E, and having another shoulder, y, which is notched at 7L and i. A latch, j, is fitted in ways 7a, that are secured to the face of plate-b, and this latch is designed for engagement with notches 7L, as shown in Fig. 1, and z', as in Fig. 2.
The door C is formed with a grooved fiange, m, in which is fitted a packingring, m', that rests when the door is closed up against the edge of the iiange A ofthe opening in the bottom of the tank.
In operation when the door is open the parts are in the position shown in Fig. 3. Now to partly close the door, as in Fig. 2, the loar E is pushed in until the notch d catches on plate b. When the door is to loe entirely closed, a handle, G, is placed on the cam-lever and latchj is lifted, after which the operator depresses the handle G, causing the projection fof lever G to engage projection cl on bar E :and force the bar in to shut the door, after which the latchj is forced into notch t' and the door is securely closed. The handle G may now be removed and taken away. Then the door is to be opened, the handle is again applied, latch j lifted as well as the handle G', and the loar moves out until the notch c catches on the plate b, and the latch is then dropped into notch I1.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is*
l. The combinatiou, with the swinging door of a tank, of an operating-bar pivoted thereto at one end, bars projecting from under the tank, a holding-plate carried thereby, a camlever adapted to engage the operating-ba r, and a locking-latch for said cam-lever, substantially as described.
2. The combination, with the door and its operating bar, the latter shouldered, as described, of a holding-plate suspended from the bottom ofthe tank and the operating cam-lever pivoted to said holdingplate over the path of the operating-bar, substantially as described.
3. The combination, with the door and its operating-bar, of the holding-plate suspended from the bottom ofthe tank, cam-lever, and a a latch for engaging notches in the cam-lever for locking it when adjusted.
In testimony that I claim thcioregoing I have hereunto set my hand, at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of lVisconsin, in the presence of two witnesses.
