SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The purpose of our invention is to hold a bed sheet correctly in place on a bed and to prevent the bottom sheet from becoming wrinkled, or from sliding up or down during its daily or nightly use. This Bed Sheet Holder comes in pairs, one section for the top, one section for the bottom. They are both (made and operate) exactly alike. The bottom holder can be used to hold both under sheet and top sheet, thus preventing the top sheet from sliding upward or out of place. This device is very simple in structure, (being of plastic).
It will not harm the sheet, bed clothing, or bed in any way. It can be attached or detached in a few seconds, and by any person.
The advantage over sheets made with mattress corner (four corner) pockets are:
(1) Can be used on plain sheets which are more easily washed and ironed.
(2) Plain sheets cost less to buy as well as upkeep and care, and can be used as top or bottom sheets, and the thickness and shape of the mattress does not alter its effect and purpose. This device canlast a long time with no springs or small parts to break or get lost.
Each top and bottom sheet is provided at one end with an elongated pocket at one end. Each pocket is adapted to detachably receive a corresponding elongated member therein. In use, the bottom sheet has its member carrying end extending downward from the head of the bed and its opposite end at the 'foot of the bed. The top sheet overlies the bottom sheet with its member carrying end extending downward from the foot of the bed and its other end adjacent the head of the bed. The weight of both members holds the sheets in proper position.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS In the drawings:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of our invention in use;
FIG. 2 is a side view of the arrangement of FIG. 1;
FIG. 3 is a detail end view of a portion of our invention;
FIG. 4 is a detail view of an elongated member used in our invention;
FIG. 5 is a cross sectional view taken along line 5--5 in FIG. 4;
FIG. 6 is a cross sectional view taken along line 6-6 in FIG. 3; and
FIG. 7 shows a sheet being prepared for use in accordance with our invention. 1
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS Referring now to FIGS. 1-7, a frame 10 supports springs 12 with a mattress 14 thereabove, having a normally vertically extending head end 14a, a normally vertically extending foot end 14b, and a normally horizontal top surface therebetween. A bottom sheet 16 and a top sheet 18 are disposed over the mattress. Each sheet 16 and 18 has a marginal end portion 30 which terminates in an outermost edge 30a as clearly shown in the drawing, and each marginal portion 30 has an inner and outer side 32 and 34 respectively, as shown best in FIG. 6.
Each sheet has at marginal portion 30 end an elongated pocket 26 on inner side 32 having an inner slot with opposite open ends 28, the pocket 26 extending substantially the full width of each sheet as shown in FIGS. 1 and 3. An elongated transversely elliptical member or slat 24 is adapted to fit in each slot entirely within pocket 26 as shown in FIG. 3, there being two such members.
In use, the bottom sheet 16 is laid over top surface 140 of mattress 14 with the marginal portion 30 thereof draped over the head end 14a such that terminal edge 30a of portion 30 hangs freely. Insertion of a weight member 24 into the pocket 26 of portion 30 causes the member 24 to be suspended along head end 14a, thereby yieldably drawing bottom sheet 16 taut.
Top sheet 18 may then be placed in overlying relationship to bottom sheet 16 with the marginal portion 30 of sheet 18 draped over foot end 1417 in the same manner as at head end 14a. The presence of a weight member 24 within pocket 26 of top sheet 18 causes the latter to be drawn yieldably taut over mattress 14 and also operates to secure the opposite end of bottom sheet 16 in place. Therefore, both sheets are held yieldably taut by virtue of this structure.
While we have described our invention with particular reference to the drawings, such is not to be considered as limiting its actual scope.
Having thus described this invention, what is asserted as new is:
1. In a bed provided with a mattress having a normally vertically extending head end, a normally vertically extending foot end, and a normally horizontally extending top surface disposed between said ends; a bottom sheet overlying said top surface of the mattress and having one marginal end portion thereof draped over said head end of the mattress, said one marginal portion terminating in a first, lowermost free edge; and a top sheet overlying said bottom sheet and having a marginal end portion thereof draped over said foot end of the mattress, said marginal portion of the top sheet terminating in a second, lowermost free edge, the combination with said sheets of self-contained structure on each of said sheets cooperating to yieldably hold both of the sheets in place on the mattress, said structure comprising:
a first pocket on said one marginal portion of the bottom sheet extending along said head end of the mattress;
a first weight member suspended by said one marginal portion of the bottom sheet within said first pocket whereby to draw said bottom sheet tightly over said head end of the mattress;
a second pocket on said marginal portion of the top sheet extending along said foot end of the mattress; and
a second Weight member suspended by said marginal portion of the top sheet within said second pocket whereby to draw said top sheet tightly over said foot end of the mattress and the opposite marginal end portion of said bottom sheet.
2. The combination of claim 1, wherein each of said members is completely enclosed within its respective pocket whereby to prevent direct physical contact of the members with the mattress.
3. The combination of claim 1, wherein each of said pockets extends substantially the full with of the mattress.
4. The combination of claim 1, wherein said members are slidably received within the pockets, each of said members being generally elliptical in cross-sectional configuration to facilitate insertion and removal of the same from the pockets.
5. The combination of claim 1, wherein each of said marginal end portions of the sheets has an inner side facing the mattress and an outer side facing away from the mattress, each of said pockets being located on the inner sides of said respective marginal portions whereby to dispose the weight members in close proximity to the mattress.
