Description

Sept. 16, 1930. I B. KRASNICK 1,776,123
BABY HOLDER Filed July 31, 1928 Patented Sept. 16, 1939 N E rare arrest BENJAMIN KRASNICK, OF COATESVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA BABY HOLDER Application filed July 31,
The object of this invention is to devise a novel construction and arrangement of a baby holder in which the baby can be safely left by the mother so that she can attend to other duties.
A further object of the invention is to devise a novel baby holder in the form of a mattress having a space to receive the baby and preferably covered with water-proof material and to provide an opening through which the feet of the baby can extend and also a holder which can be removably secured to the mattress, and which is adapted to retain in position a bottle or toys which will be supported at the proper height above the mattress.
A further object is to devise a mattress which will prevent injury to the baby if he should fall over and which will normally sup port him without injury and without cramp- 0 ing of the feet and which will provide a receptacle to receive play toys.
With the above and other objects in View as will hereinafter more clearly appear, my invention comprehends a novel baby holder in the form of a mattress preferably covered with water-proof material and provided with a space to receive the baby and with side openings through which the feet of the baby can extend.
It further comprehends a novel baby holder of the character described wherein an adjustable strap is provided to prevent the child falling through the opening into which his feet extend, and wherein the opening is preferably provided with a receptacle to receive play toys and other articles.
It further comprehends a novel baby holder of the character herein disclosed which has 0 detachably connected with it a bottle and toy holder.
Other novel features of construction and advantage will hereinafter more clearly appear in the detailed description and the appended claims.
For the purpose of illustrating the invention, I have shown in the accompanying drawings a typical embodiment of it, which, in practice, will give satisfactory and reliable results. It is however, to be understood that 1928. Serial No. 296,450.
the various instrumentalities of which my invention consists can be variously arranged and organized and my invention is not limited to the exact arrangement and organization of these instrumentalities, as herein set forth.
Figure 1 is a perspective View of a baby holder embodying my invention.
Figure 2 is a section on line 2-2 of Figure 1 showing more clearly the adjustable belt and other features of the invention. v
Figure 3 is a perspectiveview of the bottle and toy holder in detached position.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to the drawings 1 designates a baby holder embodying my invention which is in the form of a pad ormattress 2 which is covered with water-proof material. 3 of any desired character, for example, oil cloth. The mattress is substantial 1y circular in contour and is provided with a central, space 4: to receive the baby and with the'opening 5 through its front wall through which the feet of the baby can extend.
The'distance between the back of the space 4 and the rear wall, is preferably of increased width so that if the baby should fall over it will fall on the mattress and not be injured.
In order to prevent the baby from falling out of he space 4 provided therefor, an adjustable strap 6 and a vertical strap 15 are provided which extend across the rear face of the opening 5. Opposite side walls of the opening 5 are connected by the pocket or receptacle "Z for holding the play toys of the child and is preferably made of fabric and is of a flexible character.
The mattress has secured to it on opposite sides of the opening 5, the clips 8 and the openings 9 in proximity thereto so that the ends 10 of the bottle and toy holder 11 can be passed through the openings 9 and beneath the clips 8 so that the bottle and toy holder will be securely held in position due to the resiliency inherent in the bottle and toy holder 11. V
This bottle and toy holder 11 can be made of any desired material but is preferably made of nickeled wire which intermediate its ends is bent to form a restricted throat 12 and Hit] which then inclines downwardly and outwardly as at 13 and merges into the horizontal port-ion 14.
It will be apparent from this construction that a bottle can be passed through the throat 12 and will be thoroughly clamped by the resilient sides 13 so that it will be held in proper position for the child to take nourishment or anything contained within the bottle.
This bottle and toy holder 11 can also have secured to it in any desired manner, the usual and customary play toys for a baby.
When the baby is placed in the space 1 it will be apparent that the walls of the space 1 of such height that the back of the baby will receive the proper support and the baby will be protected from falling out.
A separate blanket or pad may be placed in the space 1 for the child to sit upon and,
if desired, the bottom of the space 1 may be closed by means of a sheet of. canvas or waterproof fabric. I
i It will be apparent that the strap 6 als has the function when tightened, of reducing the size of the space 1- which receives the baby.
When the baby is seated in the space 4 provided for him, his feet will extend through the opening and extend over the strap 6 and the strap will be positioned between the legs of thebaby and thus prevent injury tothe baby in case he should fall forwardly. It also prevents the baby from passing through the opening 5.
It willnow be apparent that I have devised a new and useful baby holder which embodies the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description, and while I have, in the present instance, shown and described a preferred embodiment thereof which will give in practice satisfactory and reliable results, it is to be understood that this embodiment is susceptible of modification in various particulars without departing fromthe spirit or scope of the inventi-on or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is
1. A baby holder, comprising a mattress having a central opening through it and having its wall split to form an opening through its side wall through which the legs of the baby can extend, a pocket at the upper end of said side opening and secured to the juxtaposed walls, a strap beneath said pocket and connected with the juxtaposed side walls and a vertical strap connected with said pocket and the strap beneath said pocket to prevent the baby passing thrdugh the side opening.
2. A baby holder, comprising a mattress having a central space to receive theibaby and having its side wall split to form an opening through which the feet of the baby can ex tend, said side wall being thicker at its base than the other portions, a strap extending across said opening and connected with juxtaposed walls of the opening to contribute to maintain formation of the mattress, and a vertical strap connected with said first strap and secured intermediate the walls of the side opening to prevent the baby passing through the side openings.
3. A baby holder comprising a mattress having a central recess to receive the baby with the walls of such recess closely surrounding the body of the baby and having a side opening through the side walls of the mattress through which the legs of the baby can extend, and means attached to the mattress adjacent said opening to prevent the baby passing through said opening.
