GAME BOARD.
No. 359,820. Patented Mar. 22, 1887 UNITED STATES PATEr trio.
ALFRED E. SELIGER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO ELISHA G. SELGHOWV, OF SAME PLACE.
GAME-BOARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 359,820, dated March 22, 1887.
Application filed May 21, 1886.
To all whom it may concern.-
' of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Game-Boards, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a folding game board embracing three or more game-charts arranged to fold in book form, as hereinafter set forth.
The invention is illustrated in the annexed drawings, inwhich-- Figure l is a perspective view of my improved game-board partly opened. Fig- 2 is aplan of the inner side of the game-board, displaying two game-charts. Fig. 3 is a plan of the outer side of the same, showing the outside of the two central panels arranged to serve as covers, and with one-half of a gamechart delineated on the reverse of each end panel. Fig. 4 is a transverse section of the gameboard partly folded.
By referring to the drawings it will be seen that my improved folding game-board is composed of four oblong panels, A, B, G, and D, arranged side by side in acontinnous line, and connected at their adjacent edges by hinges a a and Z), of any suitable material.
On the inner sides of the adjacent panels A and B is a gaine-chartsay chess or checkersone-half of the chart being delineated on each panel. Another game-chart, say gobang, as shown, or any other desired game, is delineated on the inner sides of the panels 0 and D, one-half of the chart on each panel.
On the outer side of each end panel, A and D, is placed one-half of a game-chartsay backgammon, or any other game-so that when the board is folded only at a a, and open in the center, as shown in Fig. 4, the two halves of the backgammon-chart will be brought together in position for use.
To expose the game-charts on the inner sides of the parallel panels A B or O D, re-
Serial No. 202,883. (No model.)
spectively, the board is opened its full length, and then folded back on the hinge I) between the two central panels. The board can now be used either with the chart on the inner sides of the panels A B uppermost or with the chart on the inner sides of the panels 0 D by simply reversing the board.
When the board is completely folded in proper form, it presents the appearance of a single flat book or folio, of which the outer sides of the central panels, B G, form the covers.
If desired, the outer sides of the central panels, B 0, may also be provided with a game' chart, thus combining four games in one board; but I prefer to employ the outer sides of these panels as covers for the board, and to this end they may be finished and ornamented in any appropriate manner.
It is apparent that any suitable game-charts can be displayed on the parallel panels conr posing the folding game-board. These charts may be drawn on paper, leather, or other material that can be conveniently pasted or otherwise secured to the surfaces of the several panels.
This combined folding gainc'board is neat, compact, and durable, occupies but a small space when closed, and when opened or unfolded presents always an even and nearly continuous surface for the desired game.
\Vhat I claim as my invention is- A folding game board comprising four hinged panels connected side by side in a continuous line, and having halves of the gamecharts arranged on the inner sides of all the panels and on the outer sides of the end pan-v els, whereby the halves of the respective charts will match when the board is folded in various ways, substantially as described.
