WHISPER SEAT This invention relates generally to commodes. More specifically it relates to toilet seats.
A principal object of the present invention is to provide a whisper seat for a toilet and which prevents sounds, made within a toilet bowl during a bowel movement, from being heard by other persons.
Another object is to provide a whisper seat which accordingly will eliminate the embarrassment to an occupant of a bath room that persons outside thereof have heard him during a bowel movement.
Another object is to provide a whisper seat which includes A specially configurated seat and commode for sealing off the space therebetween and thus prevent sounds within the bowl from escaping outward when the seat is occupied.
Yet another object is to provide av whisper seat wherein the liner is disposable, and which may be deodorant impregnated.
Yet another object is to provide a whisper seat which will in addition seal off the spread of foul orders during a bowel elimination.
Other objects are to provide a whisper seat which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.
These and other objects will be readily evident upon a study of the following specification and the accompanying drawing wherein:
' FIG. 1 is a bottom view of the invention.
FIG. 2 is a side cross-sectional view of the invention mounted on a toilet commode.
FIG. 3 is an enlarged detail thereof shown in cross section.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, the reference numeral represents a whisper seat according to the present invention wherein there is a toilet seat 11 and a disposable acoustical liner l2 attachable thereto.
The liner 12 comprises an ovaloid flat member made of any suitable material and which is positioned so to thoroughly fill and enclose a space formed between a toilet seat and the rim or top of a ceramic commode 13. The liner accordingly may be made slightly compressible. It may be of acoustical tile material and it can be impregnated with deodorant. The liner is relatively inexpensive so that it can be disposed and replaced after the deodorant is ineffective. The liner has several slots 14 for receiving a rotatable latch 15 for securement to an underside of the seat 11. Any other securement means may be used if preferred by a manufacturer.
The seat 11 comprises an oval member with central opening, the seat having a downwardly extending outer lip or flange 16 around the outer edge thereof and a downward inner lip or flange 17 around the inner edge thereof. The lips extend downward a greater distance than the liner thickness so that they overlap the upper edges of the commode. The latches 15 are secured to the seat underside.
In the installation of the device, the liner is fitted into the trough formed between the lips on the seat underside, the latches being received through the liner slots after which the latches are rotated to secure the liner to the seat. in use, it will now be evident that objectionable noises in the bowl will be confined therewithin, and not heard by other persons.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it is understood that such changes will be within the spirit and scope of the present invention.
lclaim:
1. In a noise-insulated toilet seat comprising an oval-shaped seat with a central opening, said seat having a trough formed at its underside adapted to fit over a conventional toilet bowl rim including inner and outer-spaced flanges extending circumferentially about both sides of the trough, said flanges projecting downwardly to overlap and receive said toilet bowl rim within the trough when said seat is in lowered position over said rim, in combination with a flat noise-insulating liner mounted within said trough wherein said flanges extend downwardly beyond and enclosing said liner therebetween said noise-insulating liner making direct contact with said toilet bowl rim when said seat is in lowered position over said rim.
2. A toilet seat as in claim 1 including means for removably securing said liner to the seat within said trough.
Claims (2)
