BACK-BAND BUCKLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 359,254, dated March 15, 1887.
Application filed December 15, 1886. Serial No. 221,674.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ALBERT F. M. GAR- RETT and AsA J. SANFORD, citizens of the United States, residing at Dadeville, in the county of Tallapoosa and State of Alabama, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in BackBand Buckles; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
The present invention has relation to back band buckles or trace-carriers for the purpose of holding the trace'chains up to the horses sides when plowing; and it consists in the details of construction, substantially as shown in the drawing, and hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing, which represents a perspective view of our invention, A designates the buckle, provided with the hook B for holding up the trace-chains, which lie flat to the sides of the horse and allows said chains to work freely, so they will not press the buckle to the horses sides, thereby preventing soreness and inconvenience to the animal.

loop-strap 0, through which passes one of the plow-lines to hold it in position, the ends of the strap having button-holes c, to pass over the button b to connect the strap thereto. The loop-strap 0, being of leather and detachable, can be renewed when worn by substituting a new one. To confine the button-hole ends of the strap 0 to the button a confining-staple, D, is provided, through which passes the ends of the strap previous to engaging them with the button, thereby preventing the strap from being accidentally disconnected from its fastenlng.
Having now fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is i A back-band buckle provided at its lower end with a hook for the trace-chains, and at its top orupper end with a confining-staple and button, in combination with a l0op-strap for the driving-reins or plow-lines, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
