NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES TURNER DEMAREST, OF ENGLEWOOD, NEW JERSEY.
'POT-SCRAPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 356,527, dated January 25, 1887. Application filed August 30, 1886. Serial No. 212,231. (No model.)
.To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES TURNER DEM- AREsT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Englewood, in the county of Bergen and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Pot-Scrapers, of which the following is a specification.
lMy invention relates to an improvement in pot-Scrapers; and it consists in the peculiar construction and combination of devices, that will be more fully set forth hereinafter, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a potscraper embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a side elevation.
Arepresents a plate, which..for1ns the base or body of the device, andis provided on its upper side with handles B. From the lower side of the pla-te A depend posts or standards C, four of which are arranged near the corners of the plate, and one of which is arranged in the center thereof. Thelower ends of the said posts or standards are bifurcated.
D represents Scrapers, which are made of sheet-steel, and have their upper edges horizontal and their lower edges slightly rounded, as shown. The upper edges of the Scrapers, at the centers thereof, are inserted in the bifurcated lower ends of theposts or standards, and pivotal pins E extend through the lower end of the standards and through openings which are made in the Scrapers, thereby pivoting the latter to the lower ends of the posts. By this means the said Scrapers are free to be inclined on the posts or standards, so as to adapt themselves to the contour of the pot or other culinary vessel which is being scraped.
In order to scrape a pot, the operator grasps the handles B and causes the edges of the Scrapers to bear against the side of the pot, and he then uses the device in the same manner that he would a brush.
Having thus described my invention, I claimv 1. The potscraper comprising the baseplate, the handles on the upper side thereof, the posts or standards depending from the corners and the center of the base-plate, and the scrapingblades D, having the rounded lower edges and connected centrally to the lower ends of the posts or standards, substantially as described.
2. The combination of the plate A, having the handles on one side and the standards or posts projecting from the opposite side and the scraping-blades pivoted to the said standards or posts, for the purpose set forth, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES TURNER DEMABEST.
