Device for withdrawing an ingot from a mould in a radial-type apparatus for continuous casting of metal including drawbars combined by rows into at least two assemblies embracing the ingot from opposite faces with means for moving the drawbars up and down. Means actuate the drawbars and effect release and gripping of the ingot by the drawbars. Rollers contact the upper portion of each row of each drawbar assembly and guide the drawbars during their up and down movement with the help of the actuating means and provide removal of the upper portion of the drawbars from the ingot.

In the devicesheretofore knownthe crankshafts are well spaced so' that the drive construction is very complicated. Furthermore, during the operation "of the apparatus any change of temperaturefof its separate parts may have an adverse effect on the accuracy of the adjustment of the mold relative to the drawbars.
An object of the invention is to provide such a device for withdrawing an ingot from a mold of a radial-typeapparatus for continuous casting of metal which features a simple construction andis free from displacement of the mold and the drawbar assemblies in relation to each other due'to'temperature variation during operation of the apparatus.
This object is attained by providing a device for withdrawing an ingot from a mold of a radial-type apparatus for continuous casting of metal, which device accommodates at least 1 two assemblies of drawbars, embracing the ingot from two opposite faces, and a 'drive effecting removal of the drawbars from the ingot and gripping thelatter; according to the invention, each row of each assembly of the drawbars is provided with at least oneroller contacting the drawbars at the top,
guiding them when they travel up and down, and providing for removal of the upper portion of the drawbars from theingot.
To provide removal of the upper. portion of the drawbars from the ingot each of them maybe provided with a shoulder above the workingsurface of the drawbar which shoulder rests upon a rollerimounted on a fixed axle. l u I The roller axle may be designed with a possibility of its displacement in the direction of travel of the drawbars during releasing and gripping theingot. i i l p The roller may be mounted on the frame of the mold rocking mechanism. i

The device for withdrawing an ingot 1 (FIG. 1) from a mold 2 comprisesdrawbars 3 (FIG. 2) embracing the ingot from two opposite faces and combined into two assemblies provided with adrive for gripping and releasing the ingot by the drawbars. .The drive comprises crankshafts 4 coupled with the drawbars 3 through rods 5. Both ends of the crankshafts 4 have rolls 6 (FIG. 1) resting on guides 7 disposed along a cir-' cle which is concentric with the working surfaces 8 of the drawbars. I
In the upper portion of the drawbars contacting the rollers 9' and 10 each row of each assembly rests upon the rollers 9 and 10 (FIG. 3). The number of the rollers may be different and vary from one to such an amount which corresponds to the number of the drawbars, as shown inFlG. 3. Above the working surface 8 (FIG. 1) each drawbar 3 is provided with an extension 3', whereas the axles 11 and 12 (HO. 3) of the rollers 9 and 10 are fixed.
In order to eliminate the radial displacement of the mold 2 and the drawbars 3 in relation to each other under the effect of temperature theaxlesll and 12 of the rollers 9 and 10 are ,roller 10 is hinged on the levers l4, and with the help of bolts 15 it is fixed in the position corresponding to the thickness of theingot 1 being cast. l
Between the drawbars 3 of each row'are mounted springs 16 constantly pressing the drawbars 3 to the-rollers 9 and 10 and eliminating play. i l v FIG. 4 shows another modification of the proposed device for withdrawing the ingot l fromthe mold 2 wherein the axles l7'of the rollers 9 and 10" are designed with a possibility of displacement in the direction of travel of the drawbars 3 when they grip and release the ingot l.

The device for withdrawing an ingot operates as follows.
During continuous casting of metalth'e ingot l is in the mold together with the ingot, whereas the other assembly of drawbars 3 which is withdrawn moves upward'at a high speed independently'of the ingot l. The upward and downward movement of the drawbars is effected by a drive which is not shown in the drawing. Rollers 9 and 10 are provided to release the drawbars 3 at the upper portion thereof. 3
When the crankshaft 4 releases the drawbars 3 at the bottom, the extensions 3' of the upper portion of the drawbars 3 restingupon the rollers 9 and rolling-on them as along guides remove the working surface 8 of the drawbars 3 from the faces of the ingot 1 thus providing a gap between the drawbars 3 and the ingot l. V
The extensions 3' are constantly pressed to the rollers 9 and 10 by the springs i6. As a result, the drawbars can be moved to the initial position in which they will be clamped by the crankshafts4 for withdrawal of the ingot l.
The drawbars of the second assembly are released similarly. in the second embodiment of the device, the upper portions of the drawbars 3'are withdrawn from the ingot l by turning the levers 18 (FIG. 4) which withdraws the rollers 9' and "l0'synchronously with the turning of the crankshafts 4.
k The drawbars 3 are also constantly pressed to the rollers 9' and 10' by the springs 16.
The proposed construction of the device for withdrawing an ingot from a mold is simple to manufacture, features high dependability in operation and eliminates displacement of the mold and the drawbars in relation to each other due to the effect of ambient temperature on separate units of the device.
it will be understood that the invention is not limited to the examples above described, and changes and modifications may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the idea and scope of the invention.
These changes and modifications are considered to be within the scope of the invention as defined in the following claims. a
We claim: a
1. In a radial-type apparatus for continuous casting of metal a device for withdrawing an ingot from a mold comprising in combination: drawbars combined rows into at least two assemblies and embracing the ingot from two opposite faces; means for moving said drawbars 'upand down; means actuat ing, said drawbars and effecting release and gripping of the ingot by said drawbars; at least one roller'contacting the upper portion of each row of each drawlbar assembly, said roller vide the removal of the upper portion of the drawbars from the ingot, each of thern has a shoulder located above the working surfaceand resting upon a roller mounted on a fixed axle.

Claims (5)

1. In a radial-type apparatus for continuous casting of metal a device for withdrawing an ingot from a mold comprising in combination: drawbars combined by rows into at least two assemblies and embracing the ingot from two opposite faces; means for moving said drawbars up and down; means actuating said drawbars and effecting release and gripping of the ingot by said drawbars; at least one roller contacting the upper portion of each row of each drawbar assembly, said roller guiding said drawbars during their movement up and down with the help of said actuating means and providing the removal of said upper portion of the drawbars from the ingot; an axle mounting said roller.
2. A device according to claim 1, in which, in order to provide the removal of the upper portion of the drawbars from the ingot, each of them has a shoulder located above the working surface and resting upon a roller mounted on a fixed axle.
3. A device according to claim 1, in which said roller axle is hinged on levers having means for fixing said roller in the position corresponding to the thickness of the ingot being cast.
4. A device as claimed in claim 1 wherein, to prevent relative radial displacement of said mold and said drawbars, said axle of said roller is mounted on the same supporting member as said mold.
5. A device as claimed in claim 2 wherein, to prevent relative radial displacement of said mold and said drawbars, said axle of said roller is mounted on the same supporting member as said mold.
