JOHN JUDGE, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA. I
METHOD OF MAKING AND ATTACHING COLLARS TI) MILITARY BLOUSES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 352,468, dated November 9,1886.
Application filed June 10, 1886. Serial No. 204,711. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN JUDGE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vvashington,
District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in the Method of Making and Attaching Collars to Military Blouses, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in the method of making and attaching collars to military blouses; and it has for its objects to provide a perfect fitting and setting collar. for said blouse. by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which 7 Figure 1 represents a view of the front portion of the pattern; Fig. 2, a view of a pattern of one of the back pieces connecting the front portion, and Fig. 3 a view of a pattern of the collar.
The letter A indicates the front portion of the pattern by which the corresponding portion of the blouse or garment is to be cut. This is provided with a series of perforations, a, at the distance of two inches from the forward edge. which is curved or shaped at its forward edge to fit the body of the wearer. The rear edge is also shaped or on rved so that, in connection with the side piece, 13, and the back portion, it will accurately fit the sides and back of the wearer. The upper portion of the pattern conforming to that portion of the garment at the neck of the wearer in each part of the pattern is cut on a curve, so that when the parts of the garment are put together and fastened at the throat of the wearer it will form a complete circle.
The letter 0 indicates the pattern of the collar, which is curved, so that the material cut from it (after being pressed and stretched) will accurately fit the circular contour of the body of the garment at the neck when secured thereto.
The collarpat-tern is provided with a series of perforations, (I, to mark the fold; also, the body of the pattern contains perforations 0, back of the perforations a, to .mark the location of the buttons, and a series of perforations, I), under the arm, to mark a place to be cut more or less to fit the wearer. The pattern is used These objects I attain part which is attached to the body of the blouse, is termed the stand. The inside piece of the collar is pressed and the stand thereof stretchedtthe cloth being cut on the bias) until the lower edge assumes a curve similar to the outside edge, (shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3,) but the curve being in the opposite direction. Then the outside piece of the clothis pressed and stretched to conform to the inside piece. Both are sewed together and attached by the stand to the body of the blouse. This gives the collar a circular appearance, and conforms to the neck of the wearer, making a perfect-fitting blouse around the neck.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The method of making and attaching a collar to amilitary blouse, which consists, .first, in cutting two separate pieces of cloth on the bias to conform to the 'colIar-pattern-to wit, an outside piece and an inside piece; second, in stretching the stand of the inside piece until the lower edge assumes acurve similar to the outside edge, the curve being in the opposite direction; third, stretching the outside piece to conform to the inside piece, and pressing both to retain the shape secured; fourth, in sewing the pieces together, and, finally, attaching the collar thus made to the body of the blouse, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signaturein presence of two witnesses. I
JOHN JUDGE. Witnesses:
E. L. WHITE, J 0s. A. RYAN.
